City Offices Move Into New Building

By Gordon Hopkins
Fairbury city staff have largely completed their move into the new City Hall building, which is now open for business.
Fairbury City offices were closed Friday, March 13, and Monday, March 16, to allow for the move into the new building across the street. Although the move was largely completed on Monday, the city council was scheduled to hold their regular meeting Tuesday evening, March 17, because the voting system was not in place yet.

During the cleaning out of the old building, Fairbury Mayor Kelly Davis stumbled upon an old issue of the Fairbury Daily News (See Page 11). Dated Wednesday, February 25, 1959, the story on the front page announced the formal opening of the old city hall building scheduled for Friday of that week, “There will be a half day of tours for the public, starting immediately after the formal presentation of the key by Utility Board president C.C. McKay.”
The Fairbury City Council voted unanimously to construct the new building on Tuesday, June 4, 2024. In addition to being the city hall, the building would act as a business incubator which aims to strengthen struggling or start-up businesses. Construction began in 2025. Fairbury City Staff have been working with a planning firm, Ayars & Ayars.
Mayor Davis said there will be a formal “grand opening” of the new City hall but a date has not yet been set.
