Court Issues Warrants for No-Shows

A number of defendants failed to appear for Jefferson County Court on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, as scheduled. In some cases Linda Bauer, the presiding judge, issued arrest warrants.Christian A. Papaelias, age 19, of Wichita Falls, Texas, was scheduled for a bench trial on that day. He is charged with possession of one ounce or less of marijuana, an infraction that carries a $300 fine.Papaelias pleaded not guilty at arraignment on August 9, 2023.County Attorney Joseph Casson requested a bench warrant, which was granted. Bond was set at $2,500 (10 percent).This is not Papaelias' first brush with the law. In 2021, Papaelias was one of two suspects arrested in Wichita Falls, Texas, after being seen by police allegedly near a parked car at night in Iowa Park. According to a report in the Times Record News, “When the officer told them to come out, both threw what appeared to be white gloves onto the ground. While detaining one suspect, the other one threw multiple identification cards on the ground and ran away.”That suspect was identified as Christian Papaelias. The “white gloves” were recovered and determined to be white socks. Police alleged the ID cards were stolen from a vehicle.Papaelias was arrested at the scene and charged with burglary of vehicles.Cameron J. Williams, age 21, of Monticello, Mississippi, is charged with driving without an operator's license, a class 3 misdemeanor punishable by up to three months in jail and a $500 fine, and driving without proof of insurance, a class 2 misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.Williams signed a citation promising to appear for court on July 31, 2023.Judge Bauer issued a warrant and set bond at $2,500 (10 percent).Jonathan E. Aldrete, age 30, is charged with driving without an operator's license, a class 3 misdemeanor.Aldrete signed a citation promising to appear for court on July 23, 2023.Judge Bauer issued a warrant and set bond at $1,500 (10 percent).
