Daykin Man Faces Multiple Felony Drug Charges

A Daykin man arrested on a warrant out of another county is now also facing multiple felony charges in Jefferson County, including drug charges and child abuse.Christopher L. Deubelbeiss, age 49, appeared in Jefferson County Court on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. Linda Bauer was the presiding judge. The defendant is charged with eight counts:Child abuse, a class 3A felony punishable by up to three years in prison, nine to 18 months of post-release supervision and a $10,000 fine;Possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), a class 4 felony punishable by up to two years in prison, nine to 12 months of post-release supervision and a $10,000 fine;Possession of a controlled substance (tetrahydrocannabinol or THC), also a class 4 felony;Possession of a controlled substance (psilocybin), a class 4 felony;Possession of a controlled substance (cocaine), a class 4 felony;Tampering with physical evidence, a class 4 felony;Possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, an infraction that carries a $300 fine; andPossession of drug paraphernalia, an infraction that carries a $100 fine. On June 6, 2025, deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office arrested Deubelbeiss, who was wanted on a warrant out of Richardson County.According to the deputy that filled out the Arrest Affidavit, “Deubelbeiss began removing items from his pockets and attempted to conceal a Play-Doh container in his left hand under his phone. I asked what the item was and observed a white crystal substance in the container.”The affidavit indicated Deubelbeiss claimed to have found the Play-Doh container, “Deubelbeiss claimed that he had been set up.”A search of the residence reportedly uncovered marijuana and THC.The affidavit further noted, “During a search of the garage, several more Play-Doh containers were in the vicinity of other items of narcotics, such as marijuana and THC cartridges. A suspected green marijuana pipe and a glass water bong for methamphetamine were in plain view. A mason jar with suspected psilocybin mushrooms, several unknown seeds, and THC wax were in a fridge. A Glock pistol was also located unsecured with a magazine in the chamber.”Children reportedly reside at the home. In court, the defendant requested court-appointed counsel and Public Defender Scott Gropp was appointed to represent him.Another hearing is scheduled for July 23, 2025. Deubelbeiss remains free on a $15,000 (10 percent) bond at this time.
