Defendant in Jefferson County Court Arrested on Gage County Warrant

A Fairbury man appearing for court in Jefferson County was arrested in court on Gage County warrant.Cory L. Nutsch, age 34, of Fairbury, was arraigned on an amended complaint in Jefferson County Court on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. Linda Bauer was the presiding judge. Nutsch was originally charged with first degree criminal trespass in 2023, a class 1 misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine. He failed to appear for a court date on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On March 20, 2024, a Nebraska state Trooper pulled into a gas station in Fairbury.According to the arrest affidavit, the trooper saw an individual at a pump that he recognized as the defendant. Nutsch was arrested and an additional charge of failure to appear, a class 2 misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine. Nutsch was arraigned on the additional charge. He was free on a $3,500 (10 percent) bond. However, once the hearing was adjourned, he was taken into custody on a warrant out of Gage County for failure to pay child support. In a separate Jefferson County case, Nutsch is charged with possession of methamphetamine, a class 4 felony punishable by up to two year in prison, nine to 12 months of post-release supervision and a $10,000 fine, and he is also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, an infraction that carries a $100 fine. When Nutsch was arrested by the Nebraska State Patrol, according to the arrest affidavit, the trooper reported that a search of the suspect located, “a metal straw,” with, “a white powder residue within the straw.” The results of a field test of the residue was, “consistent with Methamphetamine.”
