Diller-Odell Squad Faces Tough First Round Match-Up At State Basketball

The Diller-Odell Lady Griffins came into the D-2 State Basketball tournament as the number seven seed with a 16-7 record taking on the number two seed St. Francis Monday night at Lincoln North Star.A scrappy team that averaged 45.7 points a game, 28 rebounds off the glass, 10 assists, and 10 steals a game, Diller-Odell has proved to be a handful from opening tip off to the last second on the clock throughout the season. Even with being one point under their average, unfortunately Diller-Odell was unable to move past St. Francis losing by a final score of 44-58.Within the first few moments of the game the Lady Griffins came ready and poised scoring the game’s first bucket after a great find that gave Myleigh Weers an easy shot. From that point on, D.O. struggled to get into an offensive rhythm as St. Francis put up a tough full-court press that caused some early turnovers. If it wasn’t turnovers, D.O. didn’t rebound as well as they normally do and second chance points only helped St. Francis grow the lead.By halftime D.O. was down 14-33, but like all season long, there was no sign of quit in the Lady Griffins and they fought in the third quarter to try and mount a comeback getting the score to 27-45 with signs of life. Foul trouble plagued the Lady Griffins and with little time left in the game, D.O. couldn’t find enough offense to get back into the game ending their season as D2-7 District Champions, a state qualifier, and record of 16-8.Stat totals were not complete as of press time.
