DUI Suspect Accepts Plea Deal

Randy M. Weston, 30, of Grand Island was sentenced to12 months of probation in Jefferson County Court on Wednesday, April 6, 2022. Linda Bauer was the presiding judge.The defendant was originally charged with multiple counts: First offense DUI (driving under the influence of alcohol), a class W misdemeanor punishable by seven to 60 days in jail, a $500 fine and six months driver's license revocation; obstructing a Peace Officer, a class 1 misdemeanor punishable by one year in jail and a $1,000 fine; driving without proof of insurance, a class 2 misdemeanor that carries a possible penalty of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine; and refusing to submit to a preliminary breath test, a class 5 misdemeanor that carries a $100 fine.Weston was also charged with multiple infractions, including speeding, possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession an open container of alcohol.In accordance with a plea agreement, Weston pleaded Guilty to the DUI. The remaining charges were dismissed by the State.The charges stemmed from a traffic stop that occurred on October 1, 2021.The court received a substance abuse evaluation.The defendant asked the court for probation. Judge Bauer agreed and said, “I think you are a good candidate for probation.”Weston currently lives in Hall County. His probation will be out of Jefferson County but supervision will be transferred to Hall County.
