DUI Suspect Who Failed to Appear for Court Arrested for Another DUI

A warrant was issued last year for the arrest of a Kansas man accused of DUI (Driving Under the Influence of alcohol or drugs) after he failed to appear for court. He has since been arrested and is now facing another DUI charge. Patrick Dean Richardson, age 52, is charged with DUI and refusing to submit to a test, both class W misdemeanors. He was scheduled to enter a plea in Jefferson County Court on Wednesday, September 25, 2024. Linda Bauer the presiding judge, issued a warrant for his arrest.He had been free on a $3,500 (10 percent) bond. That bond was revoked. A new bond was set at $4,000 (10 percent). Richardson was arrested on April 5, 2025.The morning of Wednesday, April 9, 2025, Richardson appeared in court via webcam from the Jefferson County Jail. There were no charges on file yet but he is accused of aggravated DUI and an possession of an open container of alcohol. The defendant told the judge, “I'd rather just plead guilty at this time.”However, Judge Bauer told Richardson he could not plead yet because there were no charges on file yet.Public Defender Scott Gropp represents Richardson on the prior case and was assigned to the new case as well. He asked that the bond be reduced to $1,000 (10 percent) for his client. The bond on the new case is $5,000 (10 percent). County Attorney Joseph Casson opposed any reduction and noted the defendant's prior failure to appear, “He's a flight risk.” Judge Bauer agreed to reduce the bonds to $2,500 for the old case and $3,500 for the new case. She told Richardson, “I feel like the bonds are reasonable given you failed to appear at the last hearing.”Arraignment on the new case is scheduled for April 24, 2025.
