Duis Signs With Kearney For Softball

Ending the year of 2024 on the highest note was Diller-Odell senior Ashley Duis as she signed with the University of Kearney to play softball at the next level.Putting the ink to the paper on Thursday, December 19 in front of family, friends and teammates, it’s the culmination of hard-work put in the last four years. A decision, with many colleges vying for an athlete’s skill-set, is not an easy thing to do when making that decision.For Duis, the main factors came down to growth both on and off the field when making the decision for UNK, “The coaching staff and the culture really stuck out to me. It’s important to me because it is my home for the next four years so I want to be able to spend that time with amazing people on and off the field.”To those not aware that Duis even played softball, it’s not hard to see the tangibles as a three-sport athlete in high-school that could be transferred, and it’s not too surprising to find out Ashley loved to compete year around.The summer time, filled with softball and it’s because of that exposure over the last handful of years. Ashley felt more than capable to take the next step into college, “Being a member of the Nebraska Gold organization I’ve learned to compete at the highest level and how to persevere to reach my goals. This was especially important coming back from my knee injury from last January. I feel this has prepared me to compete at the highest level.”The time in high-school, never lasts as it’s fun makes the time fly away. A high-school career, filled with many moments, both during school and in the summer time.Memories that won’t soon be forgotten, “Some of my favorite memories have been being able to go to the state volleyball tournament three out of my four years of high school and competing for a National Championship in club softball where I was named Offensive MVP in the championship game. I wanted to thank my parents, grandparents, coaches, and everyone who has supported me throughout my career.”
