Early Morning Fire Destroys Garage, Damages House in Fairbury

An early morning fire the day after Christmas took out a garage and part of a house in Fairbury.Jefferson County Dispatch received a report of a garage fire at approximately 4:15 a.m., Thursday morning, December 26, 2024, on 4th Street, between G and H Streets. Fairbury Rural Fire Department paged out and, due to an automatic aid agreement, Jansen Rural Fire was also paged out for additional manpower and apparatus. Fire department personal arrived on scene by 4:25 a.m. All residents had evacuated the house by the time the fire department arrived. Upon arrival, firefighters found that the garage was fully engulfed and the fire had spread from the garage to the back side of the house. Fire personnel made entry into the house and got the fire stopped before it moved throughout the house. The fire was contained to two rooms in the house.The fire was knocked down and under control by approximately 5:00 a.m. The Nebraska State Fire Marshall assisted with the investigation. The cause was listed as undetermined and still under investigation as of press time. There were no reported injuries. Multiple dogs on the scene were also reported safe. All fire personnel and equipment were released from the scene at 8:43 a.m. There were 15 fire personnel and five fire apparatus on location. Jefferson County Ambulance was on scene to help with firefighter rehabilitation and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was present for traffic control.
