Elizabeth Nimmich

Elizabeth Anne (Raper) Nimmich, aged 81, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026 with her beloved husband of 60 years, Robert, at her side. Elizabeth (Liz) was born in Pawnee City, Nebraska on April 25, 1944, to A. William and Elva (LeSeur) Raper. She was the oldest of 6 children to this union. She grew up in rural Burchard and attended 1 year of grade school in Lewiston and 4 years in Burchard. The family moved to Pawnee City, where she graduated from high school in 1962. Liz then moved to Omaha while she attended Business School. While she was attending Pawnee City High School, she met the love of her life, Robert Lee Nimmich. Bob & Liz were married in Pawnee City, Nebraska at the First Christian Church, on June 6, 1965. To this union, 3 children were born, Anne, Rhonda and Jason. The married couple briefly resided in Humboldt, Nebraska before moving to Lincoln Nebraska. Liz was employed at the Lincoln Journal Star as a typesetter. Anne was born in 1966, and Rhonda was born in 1968, while they resided in Lincoln. In 1970, Bob & Liz moved to Fairbury, Nebraska. Jason was born in 1971. Liz initially worked as a waitress at “The Spot” before landing a job at the Fairbury Journal News, where she worked as a typesetter until 1984. In 1984, Liz began working at Roode’s Packing Plant. In 1986, Liz began driving to DeWitt, Nebraska, where she worked for ProSnip. When ProSnip moved to Beatrice, Liz continued to work there. She worked for them until she retired 20 years later. After Jason graduated from High school in 1989, Bob & Liz moved to Beatrice, Nebraska. Liz had a strong faith in Jesus, and devoted many hours to His service and in the churches. She attended, First Christian Church in Fairbury and First Christian Church in Beatrice. She taught Sunday School, served in several Women’s Groups, was an Elder in the Church, was a Bible Study Leader, organized the Coat Closet and worked with the Food Pantry to name a few. Bob recalls that he knows she read the Bible cover to cover at least four times. When the children were growing up, Liz served on the PTA. She also served / worked many years in TOPS, where she met some of her close friends. Liz was in TOPS for for over 40 years. Liz had a strong work ethic and spent many hours working to keep the kids happy, healthy and well fed. Bob would grow the food in the garden, and Liz would spend many hours canning and freezing vegetables and making jelly and jam. Liz also made lots of the kids clothes while they were growing up, including uniforms for Anne to wear as a nurses aide and special event dresses, scarves and mittens, baby blankets and more. Her hobbies included knitting and crocheting, camping, making ceramics, and reading. She loved to send greeting cards and letters to family and friends. Liz was preceded in death by her parents Bill and Elva Raper, and Bill and Sylvia Nimmich; and many Aunts and Uncles. She is survived by her husband : Robert Nimmich; daughters: Anne (Kurt) Itzen and Rhonda Nimmich, son - Jason (Monica) Nimmich; Siblings - Ed (Gayle) Raper, Barb (Ric) Helms, Cora (Bill) Redwine, Dora (Paul) Redwine, and Mary (Pat) Joseph; 13 grand-children: Ashley Griffee, Aaron Itzen, Justin Itzen, Sabrina Nimmich, Samantha Hansen, Kristina Kiihne, Lacy Bowen, Thomas Nimmich, Caitlin Starkey, Casey Nimmich, Katelyn Niedzielski, Jake Niemand, Nicholas Niemand, and 21 great grand-children; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2026 at the First Christian Church, 205 N. 7th Street in Beatrice, Nebraska, with Pastor Jeff Collins officiating. Family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday, January 16, 2026 at the First Christian Church in Beatrice, Nebraska. Memorials may go to the family's choice.
