Evelyn M. Jensen Mahlin

Evelyn M. Jensen Mahlin, age 98, passed away on September 23, 2022 in Lincoln, NE. She was born to James and Margaret (Arent) Herrington on February 7, 1924 in Gordon, Nebraska. She graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1968 and then worked proudly as an elementary teacher and then principal in the Fairbury Public School System, Fairbury, NE from 1968 until 1993. Ten years later she built a new home at 511 I Street in Fairbury, where she enjoyed working in her garden, quilting, volunteering in the community, visiting with her friends and relatives and activities at the United Methodist Church. Evelyn spent the last four years residing at Bickford Assisted Living in Lincoln. Evelyn married Harley R. Jensen on August 11, 1949 and remained married to him until his death in 1965. Evelyn and Harley had three sons, Wayne (Judy) of Lincoln, Don (Maureen) of Axtell, NE and Walt (Mary) of Lincoln. She married Kenneth E. Mahlin on July 26, 1974 and remained married to him until his death in 1994. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Margaret Herrington, four brothers and three sisters. She is survived by one sister, Margaret Ann Zimmerman, of Harrison, NE, plus her three sons, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place in accordance with Evelyn’s wishes. A memorial service will be held at Roper and Sons South Lincoln Chapel (3950 Hohensee Dr. Lincoln, NE 68516) on Friday, October 21st, at 2:00PM.
