Fairbury Approves One And Six Year Street Plan

By Gordon HopkinsThe 2024-2029 One and Six year Street Plan was presented to the Fairbury City Council at a meeting on Tuesday, December 19, 2023. The plan was previously reviewed and approved by Fairbury Planning and Zoning. The plan was presented to the council by Laura Bedlan, Development Services Director for the Planning and Zoning Department, “This is something we do yearly. As you can see there are five projects by projects in dark green (see map) we have some funding available for, which we propose to proceed with. There are six projects in light green. Whenfunding becomes available we’ll proceed forward with those and then there are several more projects on the board which are six year projects.”The plan was then voted on and approved by the council. After the meeting, Bedlan advised FJN, “Please keep in mind these are very rough numbers and this report is used for planning purposes only. Just because projects are listed as one year or six years does not mean that they will be done within that time frame.”The One Year Street Improvement Plan for 2024 consists of eleven projects and general maintenance. The total estimate for the projects is $4,036,202.15. General maintenance as recommended in the 2016 Pavement Management System includes Armor Coat and Pavement Crack Sealing. Both procedures should be on an eight-year cycle that includes roughly 7,000 feet of Armor Coat and 20 blocks of Pavement Crack Sealing.The total yearly estimate for Armor Coat is $60,000. The total yearly estimate for Pavement Crack Sealing is $60,000.The Six Year Street Improvement Plan for 2024-2029 consists of the One Year projects, general maintenance and an additional eleven projects. The total estimate for the additional projects is $6,337,294.03.The estimated cost for all the projects is $10,493,496.19.
