Fairbury Is Conference Runner-Up In Volleyball

Last week, the Lady Jeffs volleyball team had an impressive run in the SNC Championships, ultimately finishing as the conference runner-up. The team secured three consecutive wins en route to the final.On Monday, the Lady Jeffs dominated Heartland in a 2-0 victory, winning 25-15 and 25-9. Sophomore Evelyn Timmons led the charge with 14 kills, three ace serves, one block and six digs. Micah Friesen contributed nine kills, two aces, one block and six digs, while Destiny Vocelka added four kills, one block and a dig. Setter Taryn Hinman played a key role with 21 assists and two aces. Immediately following the Heartland win, Fairbury took on the Tri County and secured another win, 25-21, 25-17. Timmons led the way again with 11 kills, two aces and six digs. Friesen added 10 kills, two blocks and six digs, while Vocelka tallied two kills, one ace and two blocks. Hinman contributed 19 assists.On Thursday, the Lady Jeffs faced Superior, a team that had defeated them earlier in the season in a competitive five-set match. This time, the Lady Jeffs claimed revenge in dramatic fashion, winning the fifth set 16-14. The match ended with a thrilling ace serve by Timmons, which hit the top of the net and rolled over for the win. Due to technical difficulties, final stats from this match are not yet available. In the championship match, the Lady Jeffs faced a formidable Thayer defense. Despite their efforts, the Titans overpowered them, winning 25-14, 25-17, and 25-21. Timmons led the team with 17 kills, one ace, one block and 11 digs. Friesen added 12 kills and eight digs, while Vocelka contributed one kill, one block and one dig. Sam Starr had 11 digs, Alecia Bedlan six digs, Hinman 17 assists and four digs and Neveah Ortiz 11 assists with two digs. A standout achievement came from Timmons, who—without the final stats from the Superior match—tied the single-season kills record of 458, which she set last year, despite playing nearly 20 fewer sets this season.
