Fairbury Man Accused of Assault Gets Six Years

A Fairbury man originally charged with assault earlier gets six years in prison, but not for assault.George Larry Christopher Case, age 31, appeared in Jefferson County Court on Thursday, November 6, 2025, in the custody of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. David J.A. Bargen was the presiding judge.The defendant was originally charged with five counts: Second degree assault, a class 2A felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison; Use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, a class 2 felony punishable by one to 50 years in prison; Terroristic threats, a class 3A felony punishable by up to three years in prison, 12 to 18 months of post-release supervision and a $10,000 fine; Violation of the Sex Offender Registry Acts by failing to provide change of address, also a class 3A felony and Violating a protection order, a class 1 misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.In according with a plea agreement, Case pleaded guilty to violation of the Sex Offender Registry act and terroristic threats. The remaining charges were dismissed.On March 26, 2025, deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of domestic violence. After interviewing the alleged victim, who has a retraining ordering against the defendant, law enforcement arrested Case.The defendant has been on probation twice before. Both time, probation was revoked. He was also previously on post-release supervision, also revoked. Judge Bargen cited these when issuing the sentence, “Mr. Case, I am not going to give you probation today.”Case received three years for the Sex Offender Registry violation and three years for terroristic threats. The sentences were not run consecutively, meaning one after the other, making a total of six years in the Nebraska Department of Corrections.On March 3, 2021, Case was convicted of third-degree assault of a child in Saline County and is a registered sex offender.In mid-November, 2024, the Gage County Sheriff’s Office received information that Case had failed to report changes about his employment to the Nebraska Sex Offender Registry as required by law.An investigator from the Gage County Sheriff’s Office checked the sex offender registry and found that Case had not changed his employment information, but reportedly was living as a transient in Fairbury. The employer in Beatrice stated that Case left employment with that company in early November.The investigator requested an arrest warrant be issued for Case for violation of the Nebraska Sex Offender Registration Act. When the warrant was issued by a judge, the investigator contacted a deputy with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office who located Case in Fairbury and arrested him on the Gage County warrant.
