Fairbury Man Accused of Disturbing the Peace on New Year’s Day Reaches Plea Deal

A man arrested for disturbing the peace and resisting arrest on New Year’s Day has reached a plea agreement. Jared C. Madison, age 25, of Fairbury, appeared in Jefferson County Court on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. Linda Bauer was the presiding judge. Madison was originally facing three charges: resisting arrest, first offense, a class 1 misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine; obstructing a peace officer, also a class 1 misdemeanor; and disturbing the peace, a class 3 misdemeanor punishable by up to three months in jail and a $500 fine. On January 1, 2025, Jefferson County Deputies were called to a possible disturbance at a business in Fairbury at approximately 12:44 p.m. Deputies were informed by Jefferson County Communications (JCC) that a woman had called, “stating a male was in her car and would like him removed.” That is according to the Warrantless Arrest Affidavit, which also notes that, while deputies were speaking to the reporting party, “the unknown party began blaring the vehicle’s horn.” The passenger was identified as Jared Madison, who exited the vehicle at the request of deputies.According to the deputy that filled out the affidavit, after speaking with the reporting party, “I walked back over to Madison, who began walking away from the scene. I ordered Madison to stop walking, which he refused. I placed my hands on Madison, and he started pushing me away. I again grabbed Madison and told him to have a seat on the ground. Madison once again pushed me away. I assisted Madison to the ground and later informed him he was under arrest. Jared Madison was transported to the Jefferson County Jail for booking.” The deputy wrote, “While at the Jefferson County Jail, Madison continued arguing and refusing to complete the booking process. Madison was placed into a holding cell.”In accordance with a plea agreement, Madison pleaded no contest to obstruction. The remaining charges were dismissed. Judge Bauer ordered a PSI (Pre-Sentencing Investigation). Sentencing is scheduled for May 14, 2025.Madison remains free on a $7,500 (10 percent) bond.
