Fairbury Man Facing Another Three Year Old Case

Last week, a Fairbury man facing a three-year-old charge finally appeared in Jefferson County District Court last week. This week, he appeared in county court to address another case, also three years old.Jordan Joshua Pingel, age 25, of Fairbury, appeared via webcam from the Jefferson County jail on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. Linda Bauer was the presiding judge. Pingel is charged with violating a protection order, a class 1 misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine. According to the Warrantless Arrest Affidavit, Pingel spoke to a deputy at the Jefferson County Law Enforcement Center on January 16, 2022, to discuss an incident that occurred earlier that day involving the protected party. Pingal had been served with the protection order on January 12, 2022. He was arrested that same day. The affidavit provides no details as to the alleged incident that led to Pingel's arrest.The defendant failed to appear in court on July 13, 2022, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Pingel was taken into custody by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office on January 27, 2025. Pingel is represented by Public Defender Scott Gropp, who asked that the matter be continued until after his client was sentenced in his District Court case. Gropp said the outcome of that sentencing would likely impact how his client would like to proceed in the County Court case. Judge Bauer agreed and scheduled another hearing for March 12. Bond in this case was originally $2,500 (10 percent). Gropp asked for a PR (Personal Recognizance) bond for his client. However, Jefferson County Attorney Joseph Casson noted, “I don't think he can make bond in the District Court case, so I don't think it really matters.” “I don't think a PR bond is appropriate since you didn't appear,” Judge Bauer told the defendant, though she did agree to reduce the bond to $1,500 (10 percent). District Court Case Pingel is scheduled to be sentenced in his District Court case on March 6, 2025. In this case, Pingel was originally charged with terroristic threats, a class 3A felony punishable by three years in prison, nine to 18 months of post-release supervision, and a $10,000 fine. According to the Warrantless Arrest Affidavit, Jefferson County Deputies received a report of Pingel allegedly sending threatening messages via Facebook Messenger on November 17, 2021 In accordance with a plea agreement, Pingel pleaded No Contest to a reduced charge of assault by menacing threat, a class 1 misdemeanor, and was scheduled to be sentenced on Thursday, August 4, 2022, but failed to appear. A warrant was issued for his arrest. The defendant remains in custody as of press time.
