Fairbury Man Gets
Probation In Drug Case

Cody D. Taylor, age 39, of Fairbury, appeared in Jefferson County Court for sentencing on Wednesday, September 22. Linda Bauer was the presiding judge.Taylor was originally charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), a class 4 felony that carries a possible punishment of two years in prison, 12 months of post-release supervision and a $10,000 fine. He was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, an infraction that carries a $100 fine.In accordance with a plea agreement, the felony possession drug charge was reduced to attempted possession, a class 1 misdemeanor, punishable by one year in jail and a $1,000 fine. Taylor pleaded No Contest to the charge. The paraphernalia charge was dismissed.Taylor was one of seven individuals arrested after search warrants were served by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office on two residences on the 1000 block of A Street in Fairbury the morning of Tuesday, June 1. According to a press release from Sheriff Nick Georgi, “Upon service of the warrant, items involving illegal narcotics—including marijuana, THC wax, and methamphetamine, as well as a deadly weapon, were located within the residence.”According to the defendant's attorney, Joseph Murray, Taylor believed, “He was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.”Judge Bauer had ordered a PSI (Pre-Sentencing Investigation), which recommended probation. Murray said, “It's been a while since I've seen a PSI this good.”“I agree with your counsel, Mr. Taylor, that you are a fit candidate for probation,” said Judge Bauer.The judge then sentenced Taylor to 12 months of probation.
