Fairbury Woman Arrested for Assault and Terroristic Threats

A Fairbury Woman is Facing Charges of Assault and Terroristic Threats
Tammy M. Howey, age 58, was arraigned in Jefferson County Court via Zoom from the York County Jail on Wednesday, August 21, 2024. Linda Bauer was the presiding judge.
Howey is charged with one count of assault on a corrections officer and three counts of terroristic threats. Each charge is a class 3A felony punishable by up to three years in prison, 12 to 18 months of post-release supervision and a $10,000 fine.

The arrest affidavit noted that Howey was out on bond on other charges when this incident allegedly occurred.

According to an application for a search warrant, deputies spoke with witnesses who described an alleged threat by Howey. She is also accused of brandishing a knife with a blade estimated to be seven to eight inches long by the defendant. On July 22, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was granted a search warrant for the defendant’s residence.

In that case, Howey is charged with use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, a class 2 felony punishable by one to 50 years in prison; terroristic threats, a class 3A felony; possession of a controlled substance (high concentrate THC), a class 4 felony punishable by two years in prison, nine to 12 months of post-release supervision and a $10,000; possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, an infraction that carries a $300 fine; and possession of drug paraphernalia, an infraction that carries a $100 fine.
The defendant was originally being held on a $100,000 fine. Howey asked for a PR (Personal Recognizance) bond. Judge Bauer said a PR bond was not appropriate, noting the defendant had multiple recent arrests involving violent behavior, “I am concerned about the defendant’s mental states.”

The Judge agreed to reduce the bond to $50,000.
Another hearing is scheduled for September 16, 2024.
