Fishing Without A License Leads To Arrest Warrant

The usual penalty for fishing without a license in Nebraska is a fine. In the case of one man the accusation has escalated to an arrest warrant being issued.Fishing without a license is a class 2 misdemeanor.Erik C. Bray, 25, of Wymore,was cited for fishing without a license at the Little Blue River Dam on August 8 of this year. Bray signed a citation promising to appear in court. Arraignment was originally scheduled for September 8 but the defendant failed to appear.County Attorney Joseph Casson and the presiding judge, Linda Bauer, agreed to give the defendant another chance. Arraignment was rescheduled for Wednesday, September 22. Again, the defendant failed to appear.According to the court file, mail sent to the defendant has been returned as undeliverable.Casson asked that a warrant be issued for Bray's arrest and Judge Bauer granted the request.The defendant is not currently represented by an attorney in this case.Another defendant in a separate case, Justin Vorderstrasse, 26, of Fairbury, was also scheduled to be arraigned on September 22 but failed to appear. He is also charged with fishing without a license as well as possession of drug paraphernalia, an infraction that carries a $100 fine.Casson did not request a warrant for his arrest. Instead, he informed the court that there was already a warrant for Vorderstrasse out of Gage County on a separate matter.Vorderstrasse pleaded Guilty in Gage County to illegally operating an ATV (all-terrain vehicle) on a highway and failure to appear for court. A warrant was issued because he failed to pay his fines and, again, failed to appear for court.Casson indicated he may file an affidavit for a warrant at a later date.
