In Jefferson County CourtChristopher C. Richie, age 45, of Fairbury, was sentenced to one year of probation in Jefferson County Court on Wednesday, October 2, 2024. Linda Bauer was the presiding judge. Richie was originally charged with child abuse, a class 3A felony; possession of methamphetamine, a class 4 felony; possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, an infraction; and possession of drug paraphernalia, an infraction. In accordance with a plea agreement, the defendant pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of attempt of a class 4 felony, which is a class 1 misdemeanor. The remaining charges were dismissed. John D. Downey, age 57, of Benedict, was arraigned in Jefferson County Court on charges of possession of methamphetamine, a class 4 felony and possession of drug paraphernalia, an infraction. Downey was arrested after the execution of a search warrant by Jefferson County deputies on August 22, 2024, at a residence in Fairbury. Dain C. Zabokrtsky, 38, of Fairbury was arraigned on charges of violating a protection order, second offense. He was previously convicted of a similar offense on August 19, 2020, making the charge a class 4 felony. Warrants Issued in Jefferson County CourtPedro Pena Sanchez, age 34, of Fairbury, was scheduled to be arraigned in Jefferson County Court on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, but failed to appear. Sanchez is charged with first offense DUI (Driving Under the Influence), a class W misdemeanor. The defendant had been free on a $3,500 (10 percent) bond. A new bond was issued in the amount of $5,000 (10 percent). In Jefferson County District CourtDunia A. Orellana Sorto was fined $1,000 in Jefferson County District Court on Thursday, October 3, 2024. David J.A. Bargen was the presiding judge. The defendant was originally charged with identity theft, a class 2A felony, and criminal impersonation, a class 2 misdemeanor. Orellana Sorto was accused of using the false identification to obtained employment. In accordance with the plea agreement, the defendant pleaded guilty to criminal impersonation. The remaining charged was dismissed.
