FPS Hires Non-Profit Consulting Firm to Improve Curriculum and Scores

By Gordon HopkinsThe Fairbury Public School Board of Education voted to hire Curriculum Leadership Institute (CLI), a non-profit consulting firm, at a meeting the evening of Monday, December 16, 2024.FJN spoke with FPS Superintendent Dr. Devin Embray on Tuesday, December 24.“They’re going to provide consulting services to us to get into curriculum writing, get into instructional practices and get into assessment writing. Try to get a vertically articulated curriculum for all of our areas that we have within our school,” Dr. Embray explained. “We have to have something in place for a comprehensive curriculum model we need, desperately need something, because all we’re doing right now is developing lessons based on resources, not based on curriculum process.”Dr. Embray has worked with CLI before, when he was the Glenwood Community School District Superintendent in Iowa. Embay said, “Our Strategic Planning Committee actually reviewed it, looked at it. They’re the ones that voted on it. Because I’ve worked with them in the past, I didn’t want it to be about me or what I’ve seen or what I’ve done.” CLI is working with several other school districts. Embray said, “This company also works in Thayer Central and Superior and Niobrara. They’re in about eight districts in Nebraska right now.”The services provided by CLI costs $2,350 per day, for the first two years. Embray said, “We’re roughly scheduled to be anywhere from nine to 14 days a year, depending on who gets trained.”In the following two years, the rate will increase to $2,450 per day.CLI will be providing training to FPS staff.Dr. Embray said, “I think this is going to be a great partnership. It’s really going to put Fairbury’s curriculum on the map, so to speak, as it pertains to the state standards. And we’re hoping that, we’re actually strategically planning that this will do wonders to increase our proficiency scores.”
