FPS Superintendent Proposes Super Board

By Gordon HopkinsFairbury Public Schools new interim superintendent Dr. Devin Embray attended meetings of both the Jefferson County Commissioners and Fairbury City Council last week. His intention was to do more than just introduce himself. He proposed creating what he called a “super board.”“I just wanted to come and introduce myself to you and offer the school district as a partner,” said Dr. Embray at a meeting of the commissioners. “And would like to grow that partnership, if possible, to have the county commissioners possibly consider doing a super board meeting with the school district and the city council. I think the three taxing organizations getting together and just sharing information about what’s going on in your lives and what’s going on in your agendas, and understanding how we all work and operate with one another helps us better plan.” The board would likely meet quarterly and would not vote on action but, instead, would be primarily about sharing information between the three entities.This is not the first time Dr. Emray has participated in a “super board.” He told commissioners, “When I was in Glenwood in Mills County in Iowa, we started doing super board meetings about 15 years ago. We were the only county in the state that did it, and at the time, other counties started picking up on it and doing it. It’s a no action meeting. It’s just, whoever can attend a quarterly meeting to sit down and talk about things, have an agenda of just discussion items and just really help others plan for the future.”Dr. Embray assumed his duties as interim superintendent on July 1, 2024, for the 2024-2025 school year. Previously, he served 14 years with Glennwood Community Schools.
