FPS Superintendent Receives High Marks From School Board

On the agenda for the Fairbury Public Schools Board of Education meeting on Monday, November 8 was the annual evaluation of Superintendent Stephen Grizzle.This is an employee evaluation and, as such, is not available to the public. However, the school board dis explain how the evaluation was determined.“The evaluation tool that has been utilized for at least a few years now, is an evaluation designed and made available by the Nebraska Association of School Boards,” said board president Barry Schwab. “And then I receive all the completed evaluations to compile.”The evaluation is comprised of 38 questions in seven categories: educational leadership, public relations, working relationship with the Board of Education, financial direction, management of facilities, grounds and equipment and personal qualities.Schwab said, “So we got six board members, 30 questions, there will be 228 total responses to those questions. And in compiling the data that I received from all the completed evaluations, I would just highlight that Mr. Grizzle received 118 exceeds expectations responses and 98 meets expectations responses. So out of the 228, well over 200 of those responses indicated that Mr. Grizzle meets or exceeds expectations in those seven areas.”“There were some questions that elicited responses or need some improvement. And a couple of others that were not applicable, a couple of others that indicate that Mr. Grizzle might not meet expectations. So, very few of those, but, there were a few, nonetheless,” said Schwab. “Per policy, part of my job as president of the board is to sit down with Mr. Grizzle and discuss the details of the final evaluation, and then to give him an opportunity to respond. At that point, we will both sign off on the evaluation and it’ll go to the personnel file.”Schwab added, “But I would again point out this, the board has responded overwhelmingly that they are happy with the results, performances as superintendent. So that’s the long and short of it.”
