Gage County Inmate Accused of Criminal Mischief

An inmate of the Gage County Detention Center stands accused of criminal mischief while in custody.According to the Gage County Sheriff’s Office, Gregory L. Louis II, age 37, of Wymore, “deliberately damaged a window in the facility in the presence of corrections officers.”An investigator for the sheriff’s office was notified and Louis was arrested for criminal mischief to property with a value less than $500.00, issued a criminal citation, and then returned to the jail. Corrections officers are providing reports, statements, and video evidence for the case.Louis was arrested on July 4, 2022 in Beatrice. Police officers were dispatched to a residence in Beatrice at approximately 4:19 p.m. According to the Probable Cause for Warrantless Arrest form, “Upon arriving officers observed Victim 1 had a cut on the web of her right hand, a cut on her right thumb and swelling on her right forearm. Officers observed blood on Victim l's right hand from the cuts. Victim 1 stated Gregory L. Louis II and Victim 2 were drinking alcohol when they started to argue about the music volume. Victim 1 stated this is when Louis became angry and got into Victim 2 face. Victim 1 stated this is when Louis started punching Victim 2. Victim 1 stated Louis shoved her and she hit her head on something when she fell. Victim 1 showed officers a small knot on the back of her head. Victim 1 stated Louis grabbed a small black shovel and struck Victim 1 with it causing the injuries on her hand. I observed the shovel had blood on it.“Victim 2 stated he and Louis were drinking when Louis got mad because Victim 2 turned up the radio. Victim 2 stated this is when Louis started punching him all over his body. Victim 2 indicated Louis struck him the back of the head with the shovel and it still hurt.”Beatrice Police received a second call, indicating Louis was then at a different address. According to the affidavit, “Upon arrival officers located Louis who stated there was fight between himself and Victim 2. I could smell alcohol coming from Louis and he slurred his speech. Louis was arrested and transported to the Gage County Detention center where he was booked in on the above charges.”Louis is charged with four counts of assault; two counts of second-degree assault, class 2A felonies punishable by up to 20 years in prison, and two counts of third-degree assault, class 1 misdemeanors punishable by up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
