I look forward to the challenge in the general election. 5/13 Committee meeting:Due to changing the meeting from Monday to the previous Friday to accommodate election preparation, I was unable to attend. 5/15 Regular meeting:During public comment Ashley Mason, unsuccessful Republican candidate for District Four County Supervisor, thanked those who supported her. She said she supports Supervisor Dave Swavely, who had no opponent in the Democrat primary. She went on to say she is committed to exposing Rick Clabaugh for his lawlessness as a city council person. I do not know what Mason was referring to. Clabaugh won the Republican Primary defeating Mason. Clabaugh and Swavely move on to the general election. I do not agree with using the public comment at a county board meeting to air differences on anything but county business that the board addresses.Apace (formerly Region V Services) Regional Administrator Matt Kasik and Region V Systems Regional Administrator Patrick Kreifels presented their annual reports. While the scope and services differ, the inter-local agreement with each of the 16 counties in their respective service regions has been the same in the past. Kasik and Kreifels are hoping to separate the agreements. They are seeking feedback, not asking for a motion at this time. They will return to the counties following the Region V Systems board vote in September.Kasik stated Gage County is one of the largest growing areas. The 60 Apace employees in Gage County serve over 50 individuals here in the county. Apace is not asking for any funding from the county this year. He said they have good financial support and do not need it from the county as in the past.Kreifels said Region V Systems is separate from Apace, although until recently they shared nearly the same name. He reviewed the different categories of assistance that Region V provides. They are asking Gage County to continue to provide the same financial assistance for next year as for this year, $54,251.It was on the agenda to approve the EMS inter-local agreements for the cities and villages in the county. Supervisor Haxby asked us to wait two weeks to decide so we can discuss it at the next committee meeting.The board voted unanimously to approve the 911 Call Center agreement with the City of Beatrice for the same dollar amount annually of $236,425, with no changes to any of the services or language in the agreement. The Center provides good reliable service. We pay for the dispatching service because having this service reduces our liability. Expenses for the Call Center continue to increase every year.A motion was made by Supervisor Lytle and seconded by me to add four-way stops signs to intersections A, C, and 2nd Street (county road) in Holmesville. Supervisor Haxby expressed a concern about why we are considering approving these when we have had other requests in the county. The county received requests for stop signs for safety issues caused by view obstructions at the intersections. Holmsville is unincorporated, therefore the county road is not annexed into the village as with incorporated villages. Another option was to remove the obstructions. I stated this is a village with homes close to the streets, not rural homes with larger setbacks. Our engineer visited the site and determined that four-way stops at each intersection was an appropriate option. Due to the potential for children playing in yards, I felt it was the best option. Haxby asked the motion to be amended to include that the signs could be removed if situations changed. Lytle and I agreed. Motion carried unanimously.Gage Area Growth Enterprise (NGAGE) director Rachel Kreckenmeier gave the quarterly report. I asked for an update on any developments in District Six. Kreckenmeier said there was nothing new to report but added that there are grant opportunities and that she is willing to work with locals to obtain them.This highlights the portions of the county meetings I feel are most relevant to my constituents.
