Gage County Selects New County Attorney

By Gordon HopkinsDeputy County Attorney Amanda Fanning was appointed and sworn in as the new Gage County Attorney at a meeting of the Gage County Board of Supervisors on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. Attorney Braden Dvorak was also sworn in as the new Deputy County Attorney.Gage County Supervisor Emily Haxby explained how the decision was made, “There are multiple ways an elected office position can be filled after a vacancy, and the board evaluates each situation on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the circumstances at the time and what is in the best interest of the county.” “In this instance, Amanda came highly recommended. She has worked directly with the board in her role as deputy county attorney, which allowed us to see her work firsthand. Through that experience, she demonstrated strong legal judgment, professionalism, and a solid understanding of county operations,” said Haxby. “Based on her experience, performance, and the continuity she provides during this transition, the board felt confident she was well prepared to step into the role and serve the county effectively. This decision reflects the specific circumstances of this appointment and the qualifications of the individual selected. The board remains committed to evaluating future appointments individually, based on the needs of the county at that time.” Fanning is replacing county attorney Roger Harris, who resigned in 2025 after a legal career of 44 years. Of Harris’ departure, Haxby said, “Roger has been an asset to both the county and our board. I’ve learned a lot from him over the years and have always appreciated his straightforward, no-nonsense approach. I hope he enjoys a well-earned retirement while he catches up on his honey-do list.”
