Gage County Sheriff Updates Wymore Council On Law Enforcement Activities

By Gordon HopkinsGage County Sheriff Millard Gustafson attended the meeting of the Wymore City Council the evening of Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2024, to provide an update on law enforcement services since the city’s police chief resigned. Wymore City Council accepted the resignation of Wymore Police Chief Bobby Martinez on June 5, 2024, just 10 months after he started on the job and leaving the city once again without a police force.Since that time, the Gage County Sheriff’s office has been providing law enforcement in the city.In the first two months since Chief Martinez left, the sheriff’s Office handled 206 calls for service from Wymore. According to the sheriff’s report, the most common calls were for assistance (19, one of which turned out to be felony child abuse), followed by traffic stops (12 in the city limits and another seven outside of Wymore). However, there is no one type that makes up the majority of calls. The sheriff’s office responded to everything from fraud to welfare checks to drug violations and even a suicide. All 911 calls will be handled by the Gage County Sheriffs Department until further notice. Gage County Sheriff’s Office needs to be dispatched for all calls for service for all state law violations occurring within the corporate limits of the City of Wymore. The Gage County Sheriff’s Office will also be dispatched for all calls for service involving dangerous dog violations (dog bite cases) under state law as well.Calls for service for nuisance violations (junked motor vehicles, weeds, litter, dilapidated wellings, dogs at large, etc.) under the Wymore Municipal Code shall be reported to the Wymore City Office by emailing the calls for service to the City Clerk, Janet Riensche, cityclerk@cityofwymore.com, City Treasurer Krystal Rutti citytreasurer@cityofwymore.com and Mayor Collin Meints at mayor@cityofwymore.com.
