Gail Bundy

With great sadness, the family of Gail Bundy announces his passing at the age of 84. Born and raised in Fairbury, NE, Gail grew up with little means but a happy heart. He loved to be with his friends, hang around the courthouse square, play football, and swim in the creek. In November of 1957, he left Nebraska to serve in the Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton in CA and then earned a scholarship to play football at Colorado College. The Colorado College had such a positive impact that Gail always found ways to give back to his beloved alma mater, eventually serving on Colorado College’s Board of Trustees. His longtime service to CC was recognized when Gail was given the Lloyd E. Worner Award, which recognizes outstanding loyalty, service, and generosity. Although he loved Fairbury and kept his hometown roots close to his heart (he subscribed to the Fairbury Journal for almost his entire life), Gail settled in Albuquerque, NM, where he raised his family and established himself as one of the state’s leading insurance professionals. Most might avoid a life of selling insurance, but not Gail. He constantly challenged himself and earned several advanced certifications in his field. He worked tirelessly to advance legislation in the New Mexico Legislature and in the United States Congress, becoming a welcome friend to many U.S. Senators and local legislators. He traveled extensively across New Mexico and southern Colorado to serve his clients, and he was honored by his peers by being elected Chair of the Independent Insurance Agents of New Mexico. He was also a Board member for the Albuquerque Museum Foundation for many years. He wanted to work forever because he loved it so much - and he just about did until he begrudgingly retired after 54 years. He loved meeting new people, nurturing new clients as well as those he had for decades, helping individuals and businesses alike. But Gail didn’t just excel in his profession, he was an avid skier, racquetball player, and cyclist. Gail lived a life of joy, which fused a passion for hard work as well as having great fun (his laughter was iconic). Most of all, he lived for his family. Gail loved to take his kids to work with him, attend countless soccer games and swim meets, and travel around the world. Great memories for family and friends include annual ski trips, cheering at Lobo basketball games, holiday gatherings, as well as frequent trips back to Fairbury. Gail was a great dad, son, big brother, and friend. We are saddened by his departure, but we celebrate his life! Gail was proceeded in death by his parents, Max and Lenora Bundy. He is survived by his children - daughter and son-in-law Debbie (Bundy) and Chris Kenny of Albuquerque, NM; daughter Laura Bundy of Albuquerque, NM; daughter and son-in-law Christy (Bundy) and Kirk Durham of Los Angeles, CA; son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Kathleen Bundy of Colleyville, TX; and by his grandkids Thomas and Conor Kenny, Madison and Nolan Durham, and Claire and Caroline Bundy. He is survived by his beloved sister and brother-in-law, Ron and Linda Bales of Fairbury, NE. He also leaves 12 nieces and nephews. He was especially close to Mike and Kim Wahl; Eric and Arron Bales and their families. Also touching Gail’s life for 59 years is Sandra K Bundy. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, 11/17/22 at 2 pm at French’s University Chapel, 1111 University Blvd NE. Graveside Service will follow at Sunset Memorial Park on 924 Menaul Blvd NE.
