Gambles Building One Step Closer To Demolition

By Gordon Hopkins
In April, the City of Wymore learned it will receive a grant of $80,000 to be used to tear down the Gambles Building in downtown Wymore. The funds will come from the Revitalize Rural Nebraska Grant Program. City Attorney Andrew Carothers is preparing to submit the necessary paperwork for the release of the grant funds.

Before the building can be torn town, any asbestos present in the building will have to be removed. Carothers said, “I met with Ron Thompson of Bockmann, Inc., which will be doing the asbestos testing and remediation. Mr. Thompson was there to get an understanding of what asbestos containing materials are present and give the City an estimate of potential remediation costs.”
While the city council spent many months trying to find a way to save the building, or at least the store front, it was eventually decided that the building was too far gone to be salvaged.
