It was a state track competition that had a little bit of everything, hot weather, sunny skies, rain, cold breezes, school records broken and medals galore earned by area athletes.Diller-Odell’s Myleigh Weers won the Class D 800m run for the second straight year, setting a school record with a time of 2:20.87. Second was Shelby Schoene of Bertrand (2:21.68).Weers noted right after the race that a season of hard work paid off. “It feels incredible. All the training I’ve done all year, to have it pay off, it means so much,” Weers said.Coach Terry Arnold said of Weers, “I really appreciate that Myleigh was willing to take on a challenge and work to become great at track. She could have gone to state in the 100m dash and the 200m dash, and probably even place, but she was willing to take on the 800m dash and work to become a state champion.“We will miss her leadership at practice as she knew it was going to take hard work and she welcomed it. When some would whimper a little bit when given the workout she was quick to remind them that this was necessary to get to where we wanted to be. Myleigh’s competitive nature compelled her to run the 1600m run this year. I thought she ran great, but sometimes you have to tip your hat to the other girls. She will be missed!” FHS: For the second straight year Autumn L’Ecuyer has brought home the silver medal in the shot put. The sophomore was second last year and again was second by a slim margin, nearly taking first. L’Ecuyer threw 42.9.5” and was bested by Gretna senior Elle Heckenlively with a toss of 42’11.5”.“I thought the athletes competed well at State! Bringing home a State Runner-Up is a outstanding accomplishment for Autumn! She had a very dominating season in Shot Put and I’m excited to see what she can do in the future! She is now a two time Class B State Runner Up in Shot Put as a Sophomore!” FHS girls track coach Matt Edson said.Rene Monterroso represented the Jeffs in the shot put in Class B and finished 15th overall with a toss of 47’9.75”.Gavin Gerths ran the Class B 110m hurdles for the Jeffs, finishing in 20th spot with a time of :15.52.Finishing his high school track career at state, Dalton Vanlaningham was 14th in Class B in the pole vault with a leap of 13’6”.Finishing 16th overall in the Class B 800m was Sam Starr of FHS (2:25.80) while teammate Micah Friesen was 19th (2:26.92).Junior Nic Smith ended the state invite in 10th place in the triple jump in Class B with a leap of 42’ 9.75”.“It was a great couple of days at the State Track meet! All of our athletes competed well! Being in Class B we know how competitive the competition is! All of our kids stepped up and had great performances proving they deserved to be there! I’m super proud of our team! It’s a great day to be a Fairbury Jeff!!” Jeffs boys track coach Derek Garfield said. Meridian: Colby Smith of the Mustangs was 22nd in the high jump (5’8”).Competing for Meridian was senior McKenzie Hofstetter in the Class D pole vault.Southern: Cooper Warford had a solid outing for the Southern Raiders in Class C this year. Warford, a senior, finished 10th overall in the high jump (6’2”). He would then medal in the 100m run by finishing seventh (:11.45).In the 200m Warford was 10th (:22.93). He would medal in the 100m with a seventh place finish (:11.45).For the girls, Annika Glynn was 15th in the Class C discus (105’3”). Glynn would finish 24th in the shot put (30’). Thayer Central: The Titans had a strong showing at state. Junior Cole Vorderstrasse finished second in the shot put (57’1”).Vorderstrasse was seventh in the discus, earning another medal (157’).Blake Gunn was 17th in the triple jump (40’1.25”) and 11th in the long jump (20’1.5”). Adam Lukert was 16th in the 3200m (10:15.42).For the girls, Piper Havel was ninth in the long jump (16’10”) just missing a medal. Leah Havel was 16th in the long jump (15’11.25”). In the 100m dash, Piper Havel was 14th (:12.74). Havel was 16th in the 200m (:26.58).Isabella Escritt was 23rd in the Class C 400m (1:02.74).The Thayer Central girls 4x100m relay team (Pulliam, Piper Havel, Escritt, Leah Havel) was ninth (:50.11)Tri County: Medaling for the Trojans was Kennadee VanWinkle in the pole vault. VanWinkle finished sixth (10’).In the Class C shot put, senior Cooper Stokebrand was 13th (49’3.5”). Stokebrand would finish third in the discus (158’5”).Laying it all out on the track, freshman Sage Holtmeier finished fourth in the 3200m for the Trojans (11:54.37) earning a medal. Her teammate Isabelle Peters was ninth (12:15.18). Holtmeier just missed medaling in the 1600m with a ninth place finish (5:28.81).The T.C. 4x800m girls’ relay team (Peters, Siems, Schwisow, Holtmeier) was ninth (10:06.2). The boys’ 4x800m relay team (Siems, Rasmussen, Kapke, Holsing) was ninth (8:15.13).Sophomore Sammy Holsing picked up a medal for the Trojan boys with a fifth place finish in the 3200m (9:51.99) and was 11th in the 1600m (4:32.58).W-C: Medaling in the 4x800m relay was W-C boys’ relay squad (Keslar, Eschiti, Nicholson, Odvody) (8:11.18). The 4x400m relay team (Vlcan, Eschiti, Odvody, Keslar) were eighth for a medal for W-C (3:30.47).Cash Keslar medaled for the Wolverines in the 400m with an eighth place finish (:50.72). Ryan Nicholson, a junior, was 17th in the Class C pole vault (12’).Valerie Ninneman was 23rd in the triple jump for W-C (32’2”).In the 100m hurdles, Haleah Schuerman finished with a time of :17.56 in 24th spot and was 22nd in the 300m hurdles (:49.3). Diller-Odell: In addition to her win in the 800m, Weers medals in the 400m with a fifth place finish (:59.48) and then medaled in the 1600m with a fourth place finish (5:28.18).She set a school record in the 1600m and the 800m.Ending his high school career for the Griffins, Teghan Rosebaugh brought a medal home with a seventh place finish in the 200m (:23.04). Rosebaugh would medal in the 100m with a fourth place finish (:11.46).
