Great Weekend For Area Athletes At State Track

L’Ecuyer Finishes Runner-UpFor the Fairbury Jeffs, competing on Wednesday, May 15 and Thursday, May 16 for Class B had some of the cooler days of competition. Coming away with the top placement was Autumn L’Ecuyer. L’Ecuyer in the shot put would be a few inches short of tying her PR as she would have a best throw of 40’3.5” which placed her at second.Taking a second to reflect on the year and placement for her first year at state, L’Ecuyer is already looking forward to the next year as she would say, “It feels pretty good to finish second with it being my first year at State. I was just a few inches short of tying my PR distance, it would’ve been nice to take first, but I’ve got three more years to do that and I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead.”Ann-Katrin Mueller had a full plate of competing as she was in the 1600, 3200, and 4x800-meter relay. In the 1600-meter run Mueller would place 21st running the time 5:33.07, in the 3200-meter run placed 24th running the time 12:19.25, and in the 4x800-meter relay with Micah Friesen, Lily Davis and Sam Starr clocking in a time of 10:02.49 rounded out the top ten with 10th.Sam Starr would round out the top ten of the 800-meter run as well placing 10th with a PR time of 2:20.89. Lily Davis would reach the height of 10-00 even in the pole vault placing her at 15th, and Nic Smith reached a distance of 38’11.25” in the triple jump placing him at 23rd. Weers Wins State TitleThe Diller-Odell Griffins had some great performances at State with multiple medals coming home from the weekend.Myleigh Weers for her two individual races had some great efforts put out. In the 400-meter dash Weers would run a PR time of :59.34 which was able to place her at third and set a new school record. Then for the 800-meter run Weers would set another school record running the time 2:22.63 giving her the right to be called state champion in the Class D 800-meter run.After claiming her medal at the top of the podium and catching her breath, Weers took a moment to share her thoughts on the 800-meter run and season as a whole saying, “I honestly was thinking the whole time, I know where the finish line is, I want this, I want this bad. I want that gold and I can be tired later. I wish I had better words for the season, it’s an indescribable feeling, but I’m so happy I was able to win this and be a State champion for Diller-Odell.” The D-O boys 4x100-meter relay with Xavier Zabokrtsky, Teghan Rosebaugh, Peyton Humphreys, and Callan McKinney were able to medal as they placed eighth with the time of 45.55. Teghan Rosebaugh was able to place seventh in the in the 100-meter dash as he ran a time of 11.12. Callan McKinney competed in the triple jump and long jump as he would find himself among the top efforts. For the long jump McKinney would reach a PR distance of 20-10 which was good for sixth place, and in the triple jump another PR distance of 43-09.50 gave him third place while also setting a new school record.For the D-O girls, the 4x800-meter relay with Keira Hennerberg, Kenzie Strein, Gabby Long, and Myleigh Weers rounded out the top eight with eighth place running a time 10:35.14. The 4x100-meter relay with Sidney Engelman, Myleigh Weers, Keira Hennerberg, and Aidan McKinney were able to place ninth running a time 52.56 just missing the last medal spot. Kumpf MedalsThe Meridian Mustangs were able to have solid efforts put out at State track. Coming home as a medalist was Kolton Kumpf. Kumpf would throw himself into the top five of the Class D shot put as he placed fourth with a distance of 49’3.25”. Colby Smith was able to place 21st reaching the height of 5’9” in the high jump.For the Meridian girls, the 4x800-meter relay consisting of McKenzie Hofstetter, Maria Dimas, Kendall Filipi, and Evelyn Woitalewicz took 16th as the ran a time of 11:22.79. The 4x100-meter relay with McKenzie Hofstetter, Saege Barnell, Braxtyn Rut and Tyleiah Gooding were able to place 11th as they ran a time of :53.16. Kendall Filipi would win her heat with her first time at State running a time of :49.19 in the 300-meter hurdles placing her among the top 15 at 12th. In the 100-meter hurdles Tyleiah Gooding was able to place 13th as she ran a time of :16.71. McKenzie Hofstetter was able to 14th reaching a height of 8’ in the pole vault. Henrichs Represents Southern At StateThe lone Southern Raider of Karrigan Henrichs would place 22nd in the Class C discus as her best throw would reach a distance of 104’5”.Vorderstrasse Gets In Top 10The Thayer Central trio of Cole Vorderstrasse, Isabelle Escritt, and Meigha Schmidt had some solid efforts to end their year. Isabella Escritt was able to clock in a time of :13.30 placing her at 24th. Meigha Schmidt was able to place 16th as she reached the height of 4’9” in the high jump.Cole Vorderstrasse would place among the top ten in the discus with ninth as he threw 151’11”, and in the shot put placed among the top 15 with 12th as he threw 49’9.5”.Strong Showing For Trojans At State The Tri County Trojans were able to have a handful of athletes competing at state track.Kennadee Van Winkle rounded out the top ten of the Class C pole vault reaching the height of 9’6” which placed her at 10th. Tayden Gronemeyer was able to take 13th in the pole vault as he would reach the height of 11’6”. Cooper Stokebrand was able to throw a distance of 150’6”, just missing out on placing among the top ten of discus, and in the shot put threw a distance of 47’4.5” placing him at 21st.For the events on the track Dusty Kapke had placed among the top 20 with 18th as he ran :42.75 in the 300-meter hurdles, and placed among the top 15 in the 110-meter hurdles with 14th place as he clocked in a time of :15.87. Sam Holsing had a solid outing for his first go at State in the 3200-meter run as he would clock in a time 10:41.25 and placed in the top 20 with 17th. Lucas Lewandowski was able to place among the top 20 in the 800-meter run as he would finish with a time of 2:05.83. Isabelle Peters was able to end her year on a high note setting a Personal Record (PR) time in the 3200-meter run with 12:12.29 which placed her among the to five with fourth place. Wolverines Have Solid EffortThe Wilber-Clatonia Wolverines was able to have some solid efforts on display for State. Madison Vogel was able to make her opening height and placed 19th as she reached the height of 4’9” in the high jump. Jorge Vazquez was able to place among the top 20 in the discus as he would throw a distance of 143’9” which placed him at 16th, and in the shot put would throw a PR distance of 51’6.75” placing among the top ten with ninth.Carter Skleba was able to place among the top 15 in the triple jump with 13th as he would reach a distance of 41’1.5” and in the long jump was able to place among the top ten with ninth as he would leap to a distance of 21’3.25”.On the track Gavin Vlcan would place 16th in the 200-meter dash as he ran the time of :22.86 and managed to place among the top 15 in the 100-meter dash running the time of :11.13. Cash Keslar in the 110-meter hurdles ran the time of :16.95 The 4x100-meter relay consisting of Roberto Torres, Cash Keslar, Carter Skleba and Gavin Vlcan were able to finish with the time of :45.06 placing them at 13th.
