Gunshots Heard In Fairbury

Five gunshots were heard by residents in Fairbury the evening of Saturday, October 22, 2022.At 9:44 p.m. the Jefferson County 911 Center received numerous calls with reports of gunshots being heard near the area of 6th and K Streets. Deputies with the sheriff’s office responded to the scene and starting searching the area for anyone fleeing the area as well as any possible victims. After being unable to locate any suspects or victims, the deputies began searching the area for any structures or vehicles that may have been struck. During the investigation, a number of area residents were interviewed and deputies were able to pinpoint a location that the gunshots may have come from. It was determined by the multiple interviews of area residents that the gunshots most likely came from the alley that ran east and west from McDowell Street to L Street, between 6th and 7th Streets. During the search of that alley five 9mm shell casings were found on the ground in the alley.Further investigation of the surrounding area revealed no apparent damage to any property and no victims were found or reported. It was reported that there were five shots fired and then two male individuals fleeing west on 6th Street from the area. The description given to the deputies was two male individuals, one short and the other of average build. No clothing description or other features were given. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone from the public with information about this incident to please contact the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.No other information was available as of press time.
