Hebron Man Facing Felony Drug Charge Accepts Plea

A Hebron man, formerly of Fairbury, who was charged with drug possession has accepted a plea deal and is awaiting sentencing. Jeffery S. Stotler, age 22, of Fairbury, appeared in Jefferson County District Court on Thursday, May 8, 2025. David J.A. Bargen was the presiding judge.Stotler was originally charged with possession of methamphetamine, a class 4 felony punishable by up to two years in prison, nine to 12 months of post-release supervision and a $10,000 fine, and possession of drug paraphernalia, an infraction that carries a $100 fine. On April 26, 2024, at approximately 6:55 a.m., the Jefferson County Sheriffs Office executed a search warrant at a residence in Fairbury. Multiple individuals were found within the residence. According to the arrest affidavit, located in a bedroom where Stotler resides, was, “a mirror with a white crystalline substance and a glass pipe with a burnt bulb containing a white substance were discovered in plain view.”The affidavit indicates the white crystalline substance tested positive for methamphetamine.In accordance with the plea agreement, Jones pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of attempted possession, a class 1 misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine. The paraphernalia charge was dismissed. In addition, Jefferson County Attorney Joseph Casson agreed not to oppose the defendant’s request for probation. Judge Bargen ordered a PSI (Pre-Sentencing Investigation) and set sentencing for July 3 of this year.Stotler remains free on a $5,000 (10 percent) bond at this time.
