Heigh Ho Heigh Ho It’s Progress Here We Go!!

By Neil VanBoening The celebration portion of Sam Wymore Days always creates memories that play passenger with us for a life-time. Sam Wymore Days 2023 was no exception. As an affiliate of the Nebraska Community Foundation, the Wymore Blue Springs Area Fund (WBSAF) won the SWD Parade Best of Theme trophy. Several Fund Advisory Committee members participated in the creation, construction, and characterization of a parade float depicting “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” originally published in “Grimms’ Fairy Tales” by the Brothers Grimm in 1812 and later released as a 1937 Walt Disney movie.As in all Fairy Tales, we see deep life-applicable truths within the story. One, we learn that even beautiful people, cultures, and communities face hardships and difficulties at times. One likes to think that those speed-bumps are only in our past but those trials force us to grow to be stronger people and get out of our lackadaisical comfort zone. Most roads to fulfillment include going up a mountain, but it is on the rough side of the mountain so that we are able to climb to the peak of fulfillment. WBSAF is involved with several community teams to bring some beautiful features to our area; however, the road has been rocky at times and will be rocky in the future. Don’t be discouraged. It is only the normal path of life. Snow White and the Dwarfs faced difficulties but they teamed-up to overcome those impediments. One of the WBSAF C.L.I.M.B. “Values” is to be “Collaborative.” Grandma would sometimes describe those who were not pleasant company as, “His ‘I’s’ are too close together.”Secondly, we realize that even when we feel insecure about a challenge, we do not have the right to spoon-feed a malicious attitude. The WBSAF “B” value is “Benevolent,” i.e., “a passion, goodwill, and respect for our communities and its members.” Jealousy is a very sickening trait. Unfortunately, this writer occasionally views an undesirable jealous person in the mirror. If you see that person in your mirror, let’s do our part to chase that person “out of town.”Thirdly, Snow White, the Huntsman, the animals, the prince, and the Dwarfs showed how real beauty comes from within, each giving a portion of their knowledge, ability, sensitivity, or wisdom to benefit others which in turn advanced the giver.Learn more about Wymore-Blue Springs Area Fund at https://www.nebcommfound.org/give/wymore-blue-springs-area-fund/.There is no desire to experience another event such as the 2022 Sam Wymore Days storm; however, we did witness first-hand, the generosity of many area individuals as well as “…financial generosity and volunteer commitment to ensure we become and remain a thriving place to live, raise families, do business and enjoy the good life.”
