Hennerberg Signs With York To Play Volleyball

Diller-Odell senior Keira Hennerberg recently put ink to paper and signed with York University to extend her volleyball career.Moving onto the next level with plenty to look back on what was quite a time in D-O. As a freshman Hennerberg saw limited playing time, but was a member of the D-O Griffins volleyball squad that went on to win their second consecutive state volleyball championship. The lessons learned paid big dividends as with her sophomore season offering an opening at the setter position and knowing the bar of expectations that needed to be met. Keira was able to do that and then some from the moment she took the position as her own with tremendous results over three seasons. An integral piece to the Diller-Odell offense as she was the main facilitator for D-O in the times as they would win back-to-back district championships, a Pioneer Conference championship and helped push their state playoff run to nine consecutive years.Keira was able to rack up just under 3,000 assists with 2,824 for a career: 897 the sophomore year, 1,037 the junior year and 890 assists coming from the senior season which placed her among the top five of Class D1 with the ranking at third. During her final season, Hennerberg was able to finish with 54 kills, and led the Class D1 in aces served with a career high of 65 aces while defensively she had 23 blocks and 209 digs.All the while in the time of being a setter Keira was a major role in helping former teammate Karli Heidemann set two Class D-2 records for kills in a career and single season.Moving on to York University, Keira had this to say about the time spent in Diller-Odell and legacy she cemented, “I wouldn’t be able to do any of what I did without my teammates. I think that being able to move onto the next level shows that I made the most of the opportunities I was given thanks to my teammates making great plays.” From starting as a sophomore and moving past the senior year, an opportunity sits on the horizon for a new setter to take the position and Hennerberg knows they’ll be ready as she spoke on the experience saying, “Honestly, I’m not sure what to make of it. I came in my sophomore year, of course I was nervous but I had the coaches I had and felt ready for the challenge. For who will take setter spot next, I’m not sure, it’s a very difficult position, but also an easy position if they’re willing to put the effort in for it. I know that the coaches will have them ready like they did with me.”
