Hitting The Final Stretch Of Summer Baseball

The month of June is close to wrapping up with the last two weeks of the regular season of baseball just around the corner. On June 22 Wymore-Diller-Odell would host Tri County with a game that came down to the wire. Tri County managed to score first on the board as they would have one run in the top of the inning as W.D.O would answer with three runs of their own. Tri County would tie the game at 3-all with two runs coming across in the top of the third. W.D.O would respond with another inning of bringing in three runs taking a 6-3 lead at the bottom of the fourth. Tri County then jumped to the lead at the top of the fifth as they scored five runs taking the 6-8 lead, and added another three runs making it 6-11 as they headed into the bottom of the sixth.Needing to find an answer, W.D.O was able to bring in four runs at the bottom of the sixth to scratch and claw at the lead. Going into the final inning at the bottom of the seventh, to grab the win W.D.O needed to have some lucky breaks and make things happen on their own. Callan McKinney was able to reach the first base after a third strike was dropped as the tying run. Logan Penner doubled on a fly ball to the center field which brought in McKinney bringing the score to 11-11. Then with TJ Vitosh at the plate with a 1-1 count, a single on the ground to right field brought Penner back home to grab the 12-11 victory in walk off fashion. A total of an even dozen hits for W.D.O with nine RBI, and a team total of seven walks drawn. Leading the way with multiple hits was TJ Vitosh and Preston Engelman as each went three-for-four at the plate. Engelman led the team with four RBI. Logan Penner, Braydin Wendland and Hayden Behrends each had multiple hits as well. Penner led the team with two doubles while having three RBI and one walk drawn as well. Vitosh would also finish with two RBI. Coming away with the win near the end of the game in relief was Braydin Wendland as he finished two innings allowing four hits, three runs (three earned) with one walk and two strikeouts.W.D.O will be hitting the road to close out the month as they face Wilber on Wednesday, June 26 and then be facing Friend on Saturday, June 29. Kapke Leads Tri CountyFor Tri County, an even dozen hits for them as well. They were led by Dusty Kapke going a perfect four-for-four at the plate with a team leading four RBI as he would rack up one double and one home-run shot that brought in two. The trio of Caden Bales, Cobi Bales and Tayden Gronemeyer each had multiple hits. Caden Bales was able to come away with two RBI while Cobi Bales and Gronemeyer was able to have one RBI. Taking the loss on the mound was Dusty Kapke as he would go four-and-one-third innings allowing eight hits, six runs (three earned) with three walks and six strikeouts. Tri County will look to a mixed schedule to close out the month of June as they hit the road Wednesday, June 26 facing Tecumseh, be back home on Friday, June 28 hosting Adams and then be on the road Sunday, June 30 facing UBC.Wilber WinsThe Wilber Legion Post 101 was able to grab a 5-2 victory on the road Wednesday, June 19 against Tri County.
