Holiday Tourneys For Area Teams

The winter break goes on and so does the basketball season as many teams competed in holiday tournaments over the past few days with the results being as follows: Jeffs At Lincoln LutheranFairbury Jeffs basketball were able to go 1-1 over the break as they would lose to Lincoln Lutheran on Friday, Dec. 29, 57-78, but showed perseverance as they bounced back to take the 54-40 win against Arlington on December 30 pushing the Jeffs to a record of 6-3 heading into the new year.Notable performances in the victory came once again by the Jeffs trio with Jax Biehl scoring 22 points, while having four rebounds, three assists and five steals. Blake Starr joined him in the double digits scoring a dozen points, grabbed five rebounds and had one steal, and Jackson Martin was able to provide seven points, give out one assist and led the defensive charge with a career high 10 steals.Fairbury will look to start the year off right on the road as they will be taking on Tri County on Thursday, Jan. 5.Fairbury Lady Jeffs lost two straight as they fell 23-40 to Lincoln Lutheran Thursday, Dec. 29 and against Holdrege with the final score 28-47 on Friday, Dec. 30.Looking to bounce back in the new year will start on the road as Fairbury will be going up against Tri County on Thursday, Jan. 5. Griffins Split GamesThe Diller-Odell Griffins went 1-1 on the week of holiday tournaments as they would lose 23-59 to Tri County on Thursday, Dec. 29, but bounced back to a solid win 60-28 against Meridian on Friday, Dec. 30.Top performers in the victory came by the efforts of Kaden Sutton as he led the team with 26 points, had six rebounds, one assist, one block and two steals along with Zach Warren scoring 11 points while coming down with two rebounds, led the team with six assists and also grabbed four steals as well.D-O will now be taking to the road going against Sacred Heart on Friday, Jan. 6.Diller-Odell Lady Griffins also went 1-1 last week in basketball action as they secure a 58-47 victory against Tri County on Thursday, Dec. 29 and then would suffer a loss with a final score 40-41 against Deshler on Friday, Dec.30.In the victory against Tri County the top performances came by Myleigh Weers scoring 25 points, came away with eight rebounds, had three assists, two steals, and one block. Along with Baileigh Vilda who had racked up a double-double by scoring 19 points and grabbed a dozen rebounds, took away one steal and had three blocks.D-O will be on the road against Sacred Heart on Friday, January 6. Trojans Face Griffins, MustangsTri County Lady Trojans unable to contain their opponents going 0-2 in the last week of basketball competition as they would lose 47-58 to Diller-Odell Thursday, Dec. 29 and 29-62 to Meridian Friday, Dec. 30.Tri County will be looking to bounce back and get the new year started off on the right foot as they host Fairbury on Thursday, January 5.Tri County Trojans able to push their win streak to three games after besting Diller-Odell on Thursday, Dec. 29 with the final score 59-23 and then on Friday, Dec. 30 would best Deshler 59-28.(No stats were available at time of press time)Looking to continue on with the momentum as they face a week of stiff competition Fairbury on Thursday, Jan. 5. W-C Drops Two GamesThe Wilber-Clatonia Wolverines basketball were unable to find offensive rhythm as they went 0-2 last week, losing 34-49 Thursday, Dec. 29 to Oakland-Craig and then 19-39 on Friday, Dec. 30.W-C will be looking to get back on track against Johnson County Central on Thursday, Jan. 5.The Wilber-Clatonia Lady Wolverines can’t get shots to fall as they go 0-2 last week losing 12-62 against Oakland-Craig on Thursday, Dec. 29 and then on Friday,Dec. 30 would lose 26-49 to Centennial.W-C will try to find the answers as they will be hosting Johnson County Central on Thursday, Jan. 5. Mustangs Have Solid WeekThe Meridian Lady Mustangs went 1-1 last week as they struggled offensively against Deshler losing 34-46 Thursday, Dec. 29, but were able to comeback the next night Friday, Dec. 30 securing the 62-29 victory against Tri County.Standing out during the break came by the efforts of senior Jaslyn Ward scoring 10 points, while crashing the boards for a team leading nine rebounds while having two assists, two steals and one block. Taelyn Filipi was able to score 10 points, grabbed two rebounds, and had two assists.A trio of Mustangs consisting of Jaylee Sobotka, Ana Dimas, and Jaala Stewart each contributed eight points to the victory as well.Meridian will be looking to carry this momentum on the road as they host McCool Junction on Thursday, Jan. 5.The Meridian Mustangs went 0-2 during last week’s basketball as they would lose 21-46 on Thursday, Dec. 29 to Deshler and then 28-60 to Diller-Odell on Friday, Dec. 30.Looking get back on track will have Meridian will host McCool Junction on Thursday, Jan. 5. Raiders Grab Win Over JCCThe Southern Raiders competed in the Thayer Central Holiday tournament and ended it on a high note as they grabbed the 60-50 victory against Johnson County Central on Friday, Dec. 30.Southern will look to carry the momentum on the road going against Friend on Thursday, Jan. 5.The Southern Lady Raiders enter the new year as they will be taking to the road going against Friend on Thursday, Jan. 5. Titans Tower Over Lourdes Central CatholicThe Thayer Central Lady Titans were able to secure a close 38-36 victory against Lourdes Central Catholic on Friday, Dec. 30.Thayer Central will be looking to have the same success on the road as they go against Superior on Friday, Jan. 6.The Thayer Central Titans went 1-1 in their holiday tournament as they struggled to contain Johnson County Central losing 41-61, but found their groove the following day Friday, Dec. 30 getting the 46-27 victory against Lordes Central Catholic.Top performer in the victory came by Sam Sourdyke scoring 24 points, along with David Johnson scoring eight points and Duncan Wiedel with seven.Thayer Central takes to the road looking to notch another win going against Superior on Friday, Jan. 6.
