Hope-Wymore Closing October 1

By Gordon HopkinsHope-Wymore Assisted Living will be closing its doors October 1, 2024.Opened in 2019 and owned by Hope Cooperative Care, a Plattsmouth-based organization, the facility catered to residents with behavioral issues. The matter was discussed at a meeting of the Wymore City Council Wednesday evening, September 4, 2024. Wymore Fire Chief Mark Meintz advised the council, “They’re closing on October 1. So, people have just a few days, for the next three weeks, to find a place to live.”There are currently 32 residents at Hope-Wymore. Of those, 11 will be transferred to the facility in Plattsmouth. City Attorney Andy Carothers said, “We assume most of the people that are there have guardians, and so we’ve been told that the guardians have been put on notice that they’re going to close. So, the guardians now have to find a new place. The question that I think we need to have answered is, how many of those over there don’t have guardians and may end up out on the street?”When asked why the facility was closing, Meintz said, “Some kind of thing that they received, extra funding, and that was taken away.” City Council Member Sue Sapp noted the impact of the closure to the city goes beyond the residents of Hope-Wymore, “People don’t realize how much money they spend. You know, that grocery store, there’s never a time that I go in there that there’s not somebody from there in that grocery store.”Wymore City Council Member Max Allen said, “That’s too bad for the people who live there. It truly it is.”FJN has requested a statement from Hope Cooperative Care. As of press time, no response has been received.
