Jeannette (Hayes) Schipper,

Jeannette (Hayes) Schipper, passed away Monday, June 10, 2024 at home in Fairbury, Ne. The third of five children, she was born December 13, 1931 in the family home in Kansas, just south of Byron, Ne. to parents Clifford and Maye (Ocobock) Hayes. She was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist Church, where she was a lifelong member. Jeannette attended school in Fairbury and was a 1949 graduate of Fairbury High School, where she met her future husband, Delven Schipper. In high school she was a member of the National Honor Society, various school clubs and drum majorette for the marching band. She continued her education at the Fairbury Junior College. Jeannette and Delven were married in the First Methodist Church on October 25, 1953, while Delven was on leave, serving in the US Navy, during the Korean War. They enjoyed a wonderful life together for over 70 years, until Delven's passing on March 5, 2024. They had two daughters, Kathi and Darcy. In Jeannette's younger years, she was employed by the Fairbury Credit Bureau. She also worked part time in the office at the Fairbury Livestock Co. on sale days and in later years volunteered at the Jefferson County Extension Services, all while keeping books and managing the office for Delven's business, Schipper Construction, from 1964 until his retirement in 2012. Together they sponsored a local women's fastpitch softball team, named Schipper Construction, where they enjoyed watching the girls play and made lasting friendships along the way. Jeannette was a member of the D.A.R. (Daughters of the American Revolution), P.E.O., and Rock Creek Quilters Guild. Jeannette also served as a 4-H leader. She cherished time spent with family and friends, playing in couples and ladies bridge clubs, quilting, sewing, knitting, crocheting, tatting, painting, gardening, canning and cooking. She was a loyal fan of all Husker sports, especially football and volleyball, along with the Kansas City Royals baseball and Chiefs football teams. She and Delven rarely missed a televised game and made sure to have the game time schedules readily available. She enjoyed summer weekends with family, (which really extended from spring to fall), at their place at Lovewell Lake in Kansas, where special memories and fun times were enjoyed with longtime friends. Jeannette is survived by daughters, Kathi Schipper and Darcy (Mark) Hansen, grandchildren Nichole (Jeremy) Miller, Carrie Hansen, Nathan Hansen, great grandson Lucas Miller, sister Janice Michels, sisters-in-law Lorena Drohner and Cara Schipper, brother-in-law Barry Denney, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jeannette is preceded in death by her husband Delven, parents, older brother Eldon, older infant sister Berna Beth, and younger sister Phyllis Denney. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at Fairbury United Methodist Church, 605 "E" Street, Fairbury. Visitation will be held one hour before services at the church.
