Jeffs Battle Cardinals In Tough Weather

On Monday, April 14, the Fairbury Jeffs baseball team faced Central City/Centura and dropped the contest 0-15.Jamison Runge had a hit for the Jeffs. CJ Goeking and Garrett Roelfs each had three strikeouts in the contest.Also on Monday, the Jeffs faced the Aurora Huskies and went down swinging in an offensive shoot out. Aurora escaped with a 17-12 win. FHS went up 6-0 after one inning and held an 8-7 lead going into the third inning. A 5-1 third inning put Aurora in the lead 12-9. Fairbury stormed back with a 3-2 inning in the fourth put FHS down 12-14. However, Aurora outpaced FHS 3-0 in the fifth and sixth inning.FHS had 12 hits, compared to nine for Aurora.Jacob Nippert and Miles Tatro led FHS. Each had three hits. Nippert had one RBI and Tatro three RBI. Dakotah Neumiller had one hit, a triple, providing three RBI. Lucas Livingston had one hit, two RBI and Garrett Roelfs had a triple with one RBI.Tatro was busy stealing bases against Aurora, netting three in the game. Grady Chappell, Livingston and Nippert each had one stolen base for the Jeffs.Nippert picked up six strikeouts on the mound for FHS. On April 15, the Jeffs faced the Louisville Lions and came up short 4-22. It was a close battle after one inning with the Lions up 5-3. Louisville gained a decisive advantage in the second inning going 13-0 in the inning and led 18-3. Louisville outscored FHS 4-1 in the final three innings.Scoring hits for the Jeffs included Nippert with one RBI, Goeking and Runge.Runge had a stellar game stealing bases for FHS with three in the contest. Also picking up stolen bases were Livingston, Nippert and Dom Joe.Grady Chappell and Joe each had one strikeout in the game.Despite a chilly day, the Crete Cardinals and Fairbury Jeffs found themselves in a heated battle on April 18.The Cardinals would win 9-6. After being down 8-1 through three innings, the Jeffs picked up two runs in the fourth. Crete tacked on one run in the fifth, and the Jeffs would not give in, outscoring Crete 3-0 in the seventh inning to start a comeback but could not get the ‘W.’
