Jeffs Invite Brings Athletes From Region

Against Adams Central on Dec. 16, the Fairbury girls wrestling team made some competitive headway before hosting their own invite on Dec. 18.On Dec. 18, FHS hosted their own invite and picking up wins for the Lady Jeffs included Ana Garcia, defeating Leni Von Herder of Waverly in the 130-pound class.Danika Corbin picked up a 10-2 win over Kinlee Lotter of Nebraska City in the 125-pound class.Rylee Gill (155-pounds) finished third for FHS. She defeated Persephone VanHerwyn of Harvard (2:33) before defeating Brianna Maguire of Weeping Water (1:00) and then bested Reese Carter of Johnson County Central (1:24). Cassidy Roelfs defeated Eboney Tripe of Sandy Creek at the 190-pound consolations semi-finals, dropping a close match in the third place bracket, to finish fourth.For Thayer Central at 110-pounds, Aydrian Meyer finished third. She defeated Kobie Kosek of Centennial (11-3) and then in the third place round defeated Libby Heiser of Weeping Water (:31) before defeating Corey Payne of Centennial (:33).Brianna Schloendorn of the Titans (115-pounds) was fourth. She defeated Carly Furrow of Beatrice (19-10) and then in the third place match lost to Calley Klein of Red Cloud/Blue Hill.At 120-pounds, Alicia Workman picked up a pair of wins, one over Cecella-Vic Byers of Crete (1:42) and an 8-2 decision over Emma Kamrath of Waverly.Dakota Svoboda (130-pounds) defeated Analez Lenser of Waverly (1:42).Finishings second for the Titans at 135-pounds was Braelyn Degenhardt, first defeating Loreial Eggert of Beatrice (:52) before downing Josie Humann of Beatrice (1:12) and then lost to Kelsey Talkington of Crete in the finals. Meridian’s Hailee Buresh finished second at 170-pounds. She had a grinding win over Taylor Wilken of Waverly (3:05) before defeating Helena Shelly of Republic County 15-5.It only took Buresh 1:30 to defeat Zalley Spilker of Sandy Creek in the semi-finals and lost a close match in the finals to Payton Neeman of Waverly. Several First Place Finishes For Area AthletesAt Auburn on Dec. 20, the Fairbury Lady Jeffs and Wilber-Clatonia Lady Wolverines had several top finishers.Rylee Gill won the 155-pound division and Keira Bey (140-pounds) and Cassidy Roelfs (190-pounds) each finished second. Danika Corbin (125-pounds) was third and Olivia Hackler (110-pounds) and Chloe York (105-pounds) each finished fourth.Dalena Sladek (120-pounds), Faith Klabenes (170-pounds) and Matilda Koll (135-pounds) each won their division.Alysa Zoubek (125-pounds), Aria Polite (130-pounds), Jill Herbert (110-pounds) and Mollie Bates (105-pounds) each placed second. Raina Zurcher (190-pounds) and Skylar Hartman (145-pounds) each had a third place finish.
