Jeffs Pick Pair Of Wins

The Fairbury Jeffs baseball team is picking up momentum. On Monday, FHS defeated Auburn 9-8.Runge had two doubles and three RBI. Jacob Martin had a triple. Pitching, Runge had five strikeouts.On April 19 the Jeffs ran into a tough Raymond Central, losing 3-13.Brendon Runge led the team with multiple hits going 2-for-3 with one double, one triple. Runge was also on mound duty and took the loss lasting three and two-thirds innings allowing three hits, six runs while striking out two in that outing.The Jeffs would bounce back and knock out a 4-3 win against St. Paul on April 21.Runge continues to see the ball well as of late as he was able to get his second home run on the season in the second inning to get the Jeffs on the board first. Two innings later in the fourth Fairbury would get the three runs needed to pull away for good as it started with Blayne Schelbitzki’s double in to the center field and would be brought in by Blake Starr from a single to center as well. Jacob Martin got in the action as well for hits being credited for a double on a 1-0 count that scored the nail in the coffin run for FHS. Blake Starr went a full seven innings allowing three runs on four hits, while striking out six and walking only one to get the second win on the season. Against Plattsmouth, FHS lost 4-18. Ethan Smith was able to lead the team with two hits going 2-for-3 and accounting for one RBI. Auggie Judd took the loss on the mound pitching one and one-third innings, allowing six hits with nine runs, while striking out one in the outing.
