Jeffs Rise To The Top

A brisk breeze in the air with low temperatures on March 24 were not ideal conditions to compete in, but the Fairbury Lady Jeffs came ready to throw, jump and run away with first place scoring 203 points as a team at the Thayer Central Invitational. The conditions would make things such as warming up to stay ready and able more difficult early in the day, but the Lady Jeffs showed no signing of struggle and had a great showing in the field events portion. For throwing events, senior Karly McCord placed in the top five of shot put with fourth place, and taking first in the discus was Emily Huss with a throw getting a distance of 99-03. In the jumping events, specifically long and triple jump, a pair of Lady Jeffs finished in the top five with Madison Ohlde getting fourth and Regan Kapke taking third with 28-04 in the triple jump. Regan Kapke would also place fourth in the long jump with Hannah Robertson taking second jumping to 14-06.5. Taking to the air vertically another duo of Lady Jeffs were able to finish with top placings, this being in the high jump with Cobie Cole taking second and Allison Davis earning first both getting to the height of 4’10’’. It’s now back-to-back track meets for Mikya Lierman taking first in the pole vault this time reaching a height of 9’6’’. Though not alone in top place finishes as two others would join Lierman in the pole vault as Jami Mans took second and Lily Davis took fourth. A good lead heading into the running events had Fairbury raring for more competition as they ran away with the rest of the meet. Top three finishes in each relay race as the 4×400 team of Regan Kapke, Karly McCord, Lauren Wanamaker, and Mikya Lierman placed third running 4:40.96, and the 4×100 relay race was neck in neck as Fairbury’s relay would be consisting of Hannah Robertson, Cobie Cole, Karly McCord, and Allison Davis placed second running :57.46 as Davis made up for a few steps behind showing great determination to take back that placing after a clean hand-off from McCord. The 4×800 relay team with Sam Starr, Mariel Ramos, Lily Davis, and Madison Ohlde dominated the race from the start running to first place with a time of 11:31.35. The duo of Jami Mans and Emily Huss both placed in the top five in the 100 and 300m hurdles as they traded placings with Emily Huss taking first in the 100m running :16.93 and Jami Mans taking second with :17.18. Later in the 300m hurdles Mans took third running :52.76 and Huss fourth with :53.09. Cobie Cole was able to place sixth in the 100m hurdles and Karly McCord placed sixth in the 300m hurdles. In the short distance the Lady Jeffs had plenty of representation with Hannah Robertson placing second in the 100m dash running :13.99, Lauren Wanamaker placed third in the 200m dash with a time :30.14, and Sam Starr placed third in the 400m dash with a 1:08.24 time. As the distance in the runs increased, the results remained the same for Fairbury with Mikya Lierman taking first in 800m run with a time of 2:42.70. Sam Starr placed third and Madison Ohlde fifth in the 800m as well. Alissa York had top placings in the 1600m run taking second and was followed by Lily Davis taking third. Alissa York also took first in the 3200m run with a time of 13:56.46. Mariel Ramos placed second in the 3200m and Noelani Cervantes took sixth. For the Fairbury Jeffs boys track team, a mere eight points away from first as they take second at the Thayer Central Invite with 156 points as a team. Of the top performers from the field events were Kazz Hyson placing in the top five with each throwing event getting fifth in shot put, and taking second in discuss throwing 109-01. At the high jump Jax Biehl came away with first place leaping to a height of 5’8’’, along with James Olds who took fourth and Devon Carel with fifth in the high jump as well.The duo of James Olds and Zane Grizzle came away with top placings in the long jump with Olds getting second jumping to 19-11 and Grizzle getting third with 18-08. Korey Nippert and Seth Engelman placed in the top five of triple jump with Nippert getting fifth and Engelman earning sixth. For Fairbury’s relays, a good day of running as the 4×400m relay team with Jax Biehl, Korey Nippert, Haden Bear, Ethan Johnson took second with 4:22. The 4×800m relay of Aiden Novotny, Jerik Johnson, Ashton Mccown, and Devon Carel took first by a wide margin running 10:02.66 and the 4×100m relay comprised of James Olds, Alex Buxton Noah Hyson and Zane Grizzle showed a great effort coming away with first place as well running 48.68. James Olds and Zane Grizzle stayed busy throughout the day not only in the field events but in running events as each placed in the top three of the 100m dash with Olds taking third and Grizzle getting second with :11.97. Grizzle would later place third in the 200m dash with a time of :24.75. Devon Carel started off the year with a solid 400m dash first place run with :53.09 as his time. Alex Buxton had quite the day with the hurdles taking first in the 110m hurdles getting the time :17.29 and second in the 300m hurdles with :45.68 as his time. Aiden Novotny took fourth in the 800m run. Jerik Johnson earned second in the 3200m run with 12:32.71, and Seth Engelman came away with third. Engelman would later take third in the 1600m run as well with 5:45.19.
