Jeffs Stay Perfect With Wins

The Fairbury Jeffs stayed perfect on the week with outlasting Superior 60-50, running away 50-34 in the victory against Milford Eagles and showed the edge needed to win against Thayer Central with a final score of 49-41 advancing to 4-0 on the season.On Dec. 6 FHS was hosting Superior and to push past them the Jeffs were lifted by Jax Biehl’s career high night as he scored 37 points on 14-of-23 shooting from the field, 6-of-13 behind the three point arch, while grabbing six rebounds, four steals, five blocks and dished out two assists in what was a night to remember.Not alone in putting out some great efforts as Blake Starr was able to reach double digits as well with 10 points, grabbed seven rebounds, gave out four assists, had three steals and one block along with Jackson Martin who was one point from a double-double as he ended the night with nine points, led the team with 12 rebounds, and five assists while having two steals to contribute.Against Milford on Dec. 9 Fairbury was again led by Biehl as he scored 24 points to help the Jeffs push into the weekend against Thayer Central. If Fairbury was looking for the game to test their grit, Thayer Central gave them all of that effort and then some. This time Fairbury was led by Blake Starr showing a great day of efficiency shooting four-of-five from the field, perfect four-for-four at the charity stripe as he scored 15 points, came down with five rebounds and had two assists. Jackson Martin joined the party in scoring in the double digits with a dozen points, two rebounds, two assists and one steal. Brodie Prellwitz provided some solid minutes as he scored seven points off the bench while getting two rebounds and one steal as well.Biehl gave six points, four assists to lead the team, and had three steals. Auggie Judd managed five points, four rebounds, one steal and one block. Drew Watson led the rebounding charge as he was able to get seven rebounds, and score two points in what was an all-around team effort win to push on 4-0 on the season.Boys BasketballActionThayer Central: The Thayer Central Titans went 1-1 on the week on the road as they held on for the tight win of 35-32 against Diller-Odell on Dec. 6, but were unable to make a comeback losing to Fairbury 41-49 on Dec. 10.Top scorers for Thayer Central were Sam Souerdyke as the only Titan to reach double digits with 24 points. Brady Degenhardt contributed seven, Duncan Wiedel had six, while Will Heitmann and Grant Wiedel each had two points.Thayer Central will be looking to bounce back as they host Heartland on Friday.Tri County: Tri County’s basketball team advanced to 5-0 on the season after defeating Southern on Dec. 9 the final score 42-27 and then on Saturday against Centennial with the final 46-35.On Saturday Tri County was led by Andrew Sasse as the senior led the offense with 18 points, shooting five-of-seven on the field as he went four-of-five behind the three-point arch and grabbed three rebounds. Carter Siems scored a lucky 13 and came down with five rebounds, gave out six assists, and had two steals and two blocks.Chris Janssen scored four points and was tied for leading the team in rebounds as Janssen and Cameron Reynolds each had eight by games end. Tri County looks to stay undefeated as they will be the road going against Johnson-Brock on Dec. 16.Southern: The Southern Raiders have a mixed bag in the second week of competition as they lost a heart breaker, 44-47, on Dec. 6 against Johnson County Central, then lost to Tri County on Dec. 9, and then was able to bounce back as they secured their first win of the season beating Deshler on Dec. 10 with the final score 59-36.Southern, now 1-3, will be back on the court next Dec. 17 on the road as they take on Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer.Wilber-Clatonia: Wilber-Clatonia Wolverines went 1-1 on the week and move to 2-2 on the season as they lost a close one, 32-36, against Raymond Central, but bounced back to a solid 47-30 victory against Superior on Dec. 10. W-C will be looking to carry that momentum over from the victory on the road as they will be going up against Sandy Creek on Dec. 16.Diller-Odell: Diller-Odell Griffins moved to 2-2 on the season as they lost a close one, 32-35, to Thayer Central on Dec. 6 but bounced back with an offensive burst in the 59-42 victory on Dec. 9 against Sterling.On Friday it was the duo of Cooper Morgan and Kaden Sutton reaching double digits in scoring as Morgan led the team with 24 points and 20 rebounds with the double-double as well as giving out two assists and swatting three blocks.Sutton just one rebound away from a double-double as he finished with 19 points, nine rebounds, had two assists and two blocks. Zach Warren was able to contribute a nice seven points and seven rebounds, with one assist, two steals and two blocks in the victory as well. D-O will look to carry this momentum into hosting Lewiston on Dec. 16.Meridian: The Meridian Mustangs were unable to contain Cross County and lost 29-88 on Dec. 9.Meridian will be looking to bounce back as they will be hosting Giltner on Friday.
