Jeffs Win Conference Tournament, Now In Sub-Districts

One down, on to the next goal.The Fairbury Jeff volleyball team won the SNC tournament and claimed the title in fine fashion, defeating Milford, Sutton and Superior. In the process, the Jeffs only lost two sets the entire tournament.Fairbury Jeffs win 2-0 in the first round match against the Milford Eagles with the set scores going 25-13, and 25-18. Helping the Jeffs push past the first round was due to the efforts by Brooke Schmidt, and Allison Davis with Schmidt getting 10 assists to lead the team and Davis would end up getting four. Emily Huss led the offensive attack from the stellar passing to lead the team with 11 kills on the night. Karly McCord was able to get four kills, Allison Davis had two, while Alyse Petersen and Hannah Robertson each contributed one kill. Brooke Schmidt and Allison Davis also helped serving wise as each were able to get two aces, along with Alyse Peterson getting one ace. For the Jeffs defense Emily Huss and Karly McCord made things difficult up front as Huss would lead the team with three solo blocks and McCord managing one solo block herself. Behind the wall and showing some quick reactions was Mikya Lierman leading the team with nine digs. Alyse Petersen and Allison Davis were both able to get five, and Hannah Robertson and Brooke Schmidt came up with four digs for the team as well.The second round had the Fairbury Jeffs taking on the Sutton Mustangs in a trying battle that the Jeffs fought out a 3-1 victory. With the first set going in favor of Jeffs after finding a groove early allowed them to claim that set 25-16.The second set, a tougher battle to the end, had the Jeffs scratching and clawing to win 25-23. The third set would end in Sutton victory as the Fairbury Jeffs were unable to get in rhythm and lost 8-25. As if in a boxing match the Jeffs had gotten their chins checked and responded well in the fourth set by bouncing back and winning 25-18.Helping the Jeffs push onward to the championship came from the efforts of Brooke Schmidt and Allison Davis both getting double digits in assists with Schmidt leading the team with 22 assists, and Davis getting a lucky number of 13 assists for the team. A quartet of Jeffs benefited from the great passing as Emily Huss and Karly McCord had been able to get double digits in kills with Huss getting 16, and McCord ending the night with 15. Hannah Robertson also managed to contribute to the offensive attack getting six kills, and Allison Davis joined the effort as well getting five. Robertson and Davis also managed to get one ace served each for the team.On the defensive side Emily Huss was a force to be reckoned with as she managed to get nine blocks in total for the Jeffs to lead the team. However, not alone in the act as Brooke Schmidt would get four blocks, Karly McCord and Deja Vocelka would each have three. While Allison Davis, Hannah Robertson, and Alyse Petersen each had one block. When a ball had managed to get by the Jeffs front wall, Mikya Lierman was right there to scoop some tough spikes as she led the team with 18 digs on the night.Hannah Robertson was also able to help behind the wall getting 13 digs.Fairbury Jeffs had advanced to the SNC championship to take on the Superior Wildcats.After the smoke had settled from the heat seeking spikes delivered from both teams, Fairbury would stand tall as the 2021 SNC League Champions winning the match 3-1. The first set would go in favor of Superior with the set score being 20-25.Fairbury would then answer by winning three sets straight with the scores going 25-23, and 25-18 in the third and fourth set.From all facets of the game from defense, passing, serving, and hitting the Jeffs played with smarts and awareness as a team throughout and it was shown by the stupendous passing by Brooke Schmidt and Allison Davis getting in the double digits for the third round in a row with Schmidt leading the team with 17 assists, and Davis getting 15. Karly McCord and Emily Huss made the most out of the passing with some tear drop shots that found some open space, and some spikes with heat behind them that could be felt in the balcony as McCord led the team with a lucky number 13 kills, and Huss would get 11.Hannah Robertson not wanting to be left out in the efforts managed to get nine kills, Allison Davis had four, Alyse Petersen had two, and Brooke Schmidt had one. Brooke Schmidt and Karly McCord each led the team with aces being served with two, along with Alyse Petersen and Mikya Lierman getting one ace.On the defensive side the front wall created by the Jeffs was led by Emily Huss who came away with six blocks, Brooke Schmidt had five, Karly McCord was able to get three, Hannah Robertson managed two, while Deja Vocelka and Allison Davis each had one block.Mikya Lierman and Hannah Robertson, behind the wall were tested throughout the game handling some tough spikes as Lierman came up with 19 digs, and Robertson had 17.Alyse Petersen, and Allison Davis also contributed five digs each for the Jeffs.A sensational win for the Jeffs advances their record to 21-8 with a league record of 4-0 on the season.
