Junior Cerveny

Emanuel Junior Cerveny, 88 of Reynolds, NE passed away on November 23, 2021, at Heritage Care Center in Fairbury, surrounded by his daughters. Junior was born July 24, 1933 at the family farm East of Reynolds to Emanuel and Nettie (Bronson) Cerveny. Junior attended school at district #26 and graduated from Reynolds High School in 1951. On July 7, 1953, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Priefert at the First Baptist Church in Fairbury. To this union three daughters were born. They joined St. Paul Lutheran Church in Gilead, NE on January 10, 1965, where Junior was baptized. Junior started farming at a young age, helping his dad and brother, and continued farming until his retirement in 2010. He lived on the farm by Reynolds for 58 years. Junior enjoyed hanging out with friends and family. He also enjoyed deer and turkey hunting, playing cards, dancing, traveling, and going to his grandson’s activities, and of course making a good deal whether it involved trading for a vehicle, a tractor, an animal, or anything you can possibly trade for. As many know, you were never a stranger in the Cerveny house. You could often find new faces at the kitchen table as Junior promised them a home cooked meal from Marilyn after meeting them maybe an hour before. He was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn, his parents, daughter Connie Kay Cerveny, parents-in-law, Lyle and Julia Priefert, Brother and wife, Blaine and Elsie Huss, Sisters and husbands Marie and Ray Snyder, Nyla and Harold Keilwitz and brother‐in‐law, Bob Gibson. He is survived by daughters, Deborah (Layne) Hanquist of Clarks, NE, Jeanne (Dick) Newton of Fairbury, Grandsons, Nathan (Kristyn) Hanquist of Lincoln, Gabe (Raquel) Hanquist of Omaha, Brady (Katie) Hanquist of Clarks, Jason (Fiancée, Lauryn) Newton of Denver, and Justin (Significant other, Tracy) Newton, Sister Shirley Gibson of Jansen, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be Monday, November 29, 2021, at 11:00 at American Lutheran Church in Fairbury. The family will greet friends on Sunday from 2 – 4 at the funeral home. Memorials will go to the Family's Choice. Burial will be in the Fairbury Cemetery. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. www.gerdesmeyerfh.com
