Justin Vorderstrasse Gets More Charges

A Fairbury man in custody for multiple charges in Jefferson and Thayer Counties has new charges added.Justin B. Vorderstrasse, age 30, was arraigned in Jefferson County Court on Wednesday, July 24, 2024. He appeared via webcam from the Thayer County Jail. Linda Bauer was the presiding judge. Vorderstrasse is charged with one count of attempt of a class 4 felony, which is a class 1 misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine, and one count of second degree trespassing, a class 3 misdemeanor punishable by up to three months in jail and a $500 fine. According to the citation on file in the court record, on June 23, 2024, at approximately 5:00 a.m., the defendant allegedly attempted to remove “construction materials” belonging to a business without authorization. Vorderstrasse requested court-appointed council and attorney Gregory Kratz was assigned to represent him. Jefferson CountyIn another case in Jefferson County, Vorderstrasse is alleged to have made unauthorized fuel purchases from a Maatsch's Food Shop in Fairbury, using an account belonging to a local farm. According to the Affidavit for Arrest Warrant, law enforcement spoke with the owner of the farm, who, “did not give him permission to use his farm account.” In a separate pending case, in Jefferson County District Court, Vorderstrasse is charged with possession of a controlled substance, a class 4 felony, punishable by up to two years incarceration, nine to 12 months of post-release supervision and a $10,000 fine. He is also charged with driving under a suspended license, driving without a valid registration and invalid or defective lighting, all class 3 misdemeanors.The defendant was arrested Tuesday night, December 19, 2023, during a traffic stop. He is scheduled to be arraigned on this matter on August 1, 2024. Thayer CountyVorderstrasse also has a case pending in Thayer County. In that case, he is being held on the charges of burglary, possession of burglary tools, theft by unlawful taking criminal mischief. According to the Thayer County Sheriff's office, subsequent investigation resulted in recovery of a stolen Yamaha Grizzly located in Carleton.
