Lady Jeffs’ Season Ends In DistrictLoss To MindenThe Lady Jeffs’ postseason run came to an end last Wednesday night with a four-set loss to top-ranked Minden, closing their season with a 24–10 record.Fairbury came out strong, stunning the No. 1 Whippets by taking the opening set. However, Minden responded with a 25–19 win in the second. The third set proved pivotal — the Jeffs led 22–17 before being called for a lift, a costly error that swung the momentum sharply in Minden’s favor. The Whippets capitalized with six straight points before Fairbury called timeout trailing 22–23, but Minden held on to win the set 26–24. The Jeffs struggled to recover from the emotional loss, dropping the final set 15–25.Junior Evelyn Timmons once again led the charge with 24 kills, one ace, and 25 digs. Senior Micah Friesen added 21 kills on a .311 hitting percentage along with 15 digs. Senior Destiny Vocelka contributed nine kills (.350), three aces, and three digs. Junior Neveah Ortiz tallied one kill, one assist, and 12 digs. Alecia Bedlan recorded 20 digs and one ace, while Keira Bey added one kill and two blocks. Setter Taryn Hinman had a strong performance with 50 assists, six digs, and two aces. Before falling to Minden, the Jeffs made a thrilling run through subdistricts. On Tuesday, they stunned No. 2-ranked Adams Central with a dramatic reverse sweep. Timmons was dominant with 33 kills (.292), two aces, two blocks, and 21 digs. Friesen added 27 kills (.358) and 10 digs, while Vocelka chipped in 10 kills (.280), two aces, three blocks, and seven digs. Ortiz, Bey, and Bedlan also provided key contributions in the comeback victory. The Jeffs opened the week with a commanding 3–0 sweep over Wilber-Clatonia at home Monday. Timmons led the way again with 18 kills (.519), one ace, and five digs. Friesen followed with eight kills and four aces, while Vocelka, Bedlan, Bey, Hinman, and Ortiz rounded out the balanced team effort.Despite the strong postseason showing, Fairbury came up just short in wildcard points, meaning Adams Central will advance to face Minden in the district final on Saturday—even though the Jeffs defeated the Patriots in their subdistrict semifinal earlier in the week.Still, it was a record-breaking season for the Lady Jeffs. Timmons, who already holds the program records for kills per game, season, and career, added another milestone by breaking the single-season hitting percentage record (.328). She finishes her junior year with 1,567 career kills and leads Class C-1 for the second straight year with 6.0 kills per set. She also sits at 959 career digs, putting her within reach of the 1,000 mark next season.Setter Taryn Hinman also etched her name into the record books. She broke the single-game assist record with 64 versus Adams Central and set a new single-season record with 1,022 assists (surpassing the mark on October 21 against Milford). Hinman ends her junior campaign with 1,788 career assists heading into her senior year.
