Lady Titans Rally To Upend Jeffs In Volleyball

Down two sets, Thayer Central Lady Titans had a long night ahead of them last week. The third set was a battle that Thayer Central fought to claim the 26-24 victory. The tide still very much on Fairbury’s side, but then a dominating four set win 25-19 for the Lady Titans evened things up at 2-2. Thayer Central would put the nail in the coffin for the comeback definitely winning 15-7 in the fifth and final set.A team effort in all facets of the game. Senior Ashlyn Cooper led the team with 45 assists, and on the receiving end of those passes was Juniors Jadyn Bowman and Natalie Tietjen leading the attack with Bowman getting 25 kills while Tietjen finished with 21.Cooper and Tietjen were joined by Caitlyn Mitchel and Josey Welch as each served up one ace, and leading the way with two aces was Senior Ava Wiedel. Thayer Central looked to carry this momentum into September 8 on the road against Heartland. It took four sets, but Thayer Central Lady Titans are now winners of five straight games winning 3-1 facing the Huskies. The one-two punch of Natalie Tiietjen and Jaydn Bowman reached double digits in kills again but switched places in leading the attack as this time Tietjen led the way with a sweet number of 16 kills and Bowman a lucky 13 on the night. Tietjen also led the team with three aces served and collected one block along with Ashlyn Cooper who finished with one block and 36 assists in the game. Thayer Central will be back in action on the road taking on Sandy Creek on September 13.For Fairbury, the leading offensive attack was Emily Huss. Huss the only one to reach double digit kills as the senior finished with 23. Allison Davis and Alyse Petersen contributed in a multitude of ways as Davis finished with nine kills and 11 assists while Petersen finished with eight kills and gave out 29 assists. Fairbury dropped to 3-1 losing to Thayer Central, but needed to rebound as the Lady Jeffs would be heading into triangular action at Malcolm on Thursday September 8. Unfortunately the Lady Jeffs drop to 3-3 after losing two straight 0-2 to Centennial and 1-2 to Ashland-Greenwood. On September 10 at the Malcolm Invitational the Lady Jeffs were looking for answers. Losing two straight 0-2 to Elmwood-Murdock and Malcolm wasn’t apart of the plans, but ending the day on a good note winning 2-0 against Louisville moving to a record of 4-5.
