Letter to the Editor,I would like to recognize and give great credit to all the people behind the scenes at the Jefferson County Fair. I don’t know all the names and committees, but I would like to recognize the ones which I personally saw going the extra mile!Brenda Riggle who manages the 4-H food stand for 5 long days! The food was wonderful and enjoyed by hundreds of people! To all the 4-H families who did 3 hour shifts in the food stand from morning to night so that this fund raiser can support 4-H programs all year long!Tony Likens, the fairgrounds director and his crew of fair workers who also put in very long hours organizing and carrying out all the moving of all the display cases, tables and chairs, equipment, cleaning multiple bathrooms, emptying all the trash receptacles around the grounds and too many other jobs to name! Thanks to Jane Scarrow who has helped with the fair for many, many years! Her smile and humor are priceless!To the superintendents of so many livestock and animal shows, home environment, horticulture, and all the other departments! Great work assisting judges and making everything look so nice on display! These generous people volunteer their time and expertise to help to develop our youth! If you know someone who helped, please thank them!To the livestock sale committee who organized a great sale, raising funds for those kids exhibiting market livestock and soliciting agricultural and many business owners who generously supported our youth! Thank you to each of you!Last, but not least, to the UNL extension staff: Darci Pesek, Educator and her brand new staff members, Crystal Schroeder, Office Manager and Megan Schmidt, intern. No one can fathom the numbers of questions these ladies field each day. Their level of organization and willingness to help anyone get what they need on a moment’s notice is no small feat! Many months of preparation go into organizing for the fair each year and it takes a tremendous amount of work to make it go smoothly!It takes all these people and so many more to make a great event.
